Paul Scholes in his team, we'd be in the top 4 imo. Ferguson was a great manager but he was lucky to have Scholes in his team.
Lost the league on goal difference and won it the season after with him. We really need a Scholes replacement! Although that is almost impossible
If Moyes had..

Paul Scholes in this team is automatic top 4. People underestimate the genius of that man. Him in this team will means Valencia back on form, Rooney banging in goals for fun again.

Derby fan in peace. I've been regularly reading the utd board lately, mainly looking for hajifurs inane ramblings but also out of morbid curiosity at what is happening this season at utd. Here's my opinion on things.
I'm with the op. But only if Scholes was in his prime. Like Liverpool with gerrard, having a world class midfielder makes all the difference even when surrounded by merely good players. They had it with gerrard and alonso, had you a 32 year old Scholes alongside Carrick in midfield no doubt about it, you would be faring far better.
You might say it's only one player but Scholes is worth 5 of Tom cleverley.
Even now, a 39 year old Scholes would be a significant upgrade on your midfield. But to keep relying on, albeit legendary, former players to dig you out of a hole is only a temporary fix, as has been badly shown up this season.
The problem is that there are too many players in one go being past their best. Within the space of 2 seasons your defence has gone from having 2 world class centre backs and a world class left back to 2 players being liabilities and one de ranking to merely good.
You stick van persie up top, rooney in just behind him, mata pulling the strings from the centre in the Scholes role, Carrick sitting in and holding, adnan on the left and you're a good right winger away from a front 6 as good as you need to mount a serious title challenge.
You have a fantastic gk in de gea. Rafael is more than capable of replacing evra. Play Phil Jones at centre half regularly, make that his position to replace ferdinand and then you're only a quality centre back and full back from having a top drawer first 11, with the players currently starting every week being more than capable squad players.
Obviously I don't watch utd as much as the rest of you, but when I watched them last season I was far from impressed and always maintained it was fergies genius and the lack of challenge from anyone else that won last season's title, lulling a lot of people into a false sense of the quality of the squad. Same goes for the season before when city pipped you to the post, I was staggered you took it right to the wire, again testament to just how great fergie was.
Too many of your players are only of mid table quality which is why you find yourselves in the position you're in. Wait and see what moyes does in the summer, because once he has players of a suitable standard, he may finally feel he can unshackle the team and get some of your old pomp back.

"Paul Scholes in his team, we'd be in the top 4 imo."
Indeed.
"dumb delusional and a div."
It's rather unfortunate that it would be you saying that.

"Scholes was a genius but he wasn't a miracle worker. Why would Valencia suddenly find form? The game has changed a lot since scholes was in his prime"
For several reasons. Primarily, United will maintain possession and set the tempo in games. Not to mention the potential link up between Mata and Scholes.

"How would scholes stop us from conceding goals"
See: Maintaining possession and setting the tempo.
"we have moyes in charge and not pep guardiola"
Indeed. Next time we'll work on which team wears which kit.
