Hudderfield Town v Nottingham Forest

Hudds Tn v Nott'm Forest
Tues 11th Feb, 2013
Disclaimer: This is the first time I’ve done a match report.

Stats
Last 8 games
Town: WlllWlWD 10pts Forest: dWWWddWW 18pts

Forest haven’t lost since November 29th and have a long standing reputation for attractive ball-to-feet football – they panned us 6-1 at their place last year after giving us a lesson at home early in the season before we somehow grabbed a draw with our first shot of the match – a penalty. They also beat us 1-0 on the opening day of this season. - hmmm – not promising.

History
Lace making vs weaving – Lace Market vs 2nd Hand Market– Brian Clough vs Brian Horton – Robin Hood vs Roy Castle (dancer & tv presenter) – hmmm – not promising.

Key Players
Forest bought our target Jamie Patterson from Walsall – we just bought the wrong Paterson. If all our players are fit then we compete – but fitness has been a problem lately – Forest just have a stream of premier league experience – Reid, Vaughan, Cox, Mackie, Derbyshire – and England under 21s Lansbury, Chalobah – hmmm – not promising

Prediction
So how do you draw any conclusion other than a Forest win?
Here’s how – there is precedent – and it dates back to Robin Hood, the big time Charlie of medieval times – breaking into hard-working people’s houses and nicking stuff for the idle scroungers on his estate/forest. And where did he meet his end? In Huddersfield that’s where (well, Clifton – so quite near) in Kirklees Priory – chased out of Sherwood by the great king (or the sheriff) he ended up shacking up with some posh bird from Huddersfield - she was busy and couldn’t be @rsed with him - so she killed him – something like that anyway.

And so I draw the inspiration for a thumping Town victory. Because Town under Robins are the new Forest – the replica of Forest in the 80s under Clough – how to do it right. Nay, better than the Forest model – not just dependent on a genius manager – Town have a genius manager and a genius owner – genius under 21 and academy squads – a genius shopping centre rapper - TOWN ARE THE GENIUS CLUB! Unsung players who are producing a pattern and style of football that is pleasing on the eye and will ultimately be pleasing on the league table.

Yes, Forest are in for a shock on Tuesday – poncing up here with their fancy dans on big money – with their lace petticoats and bows and arrows. They’re going to feel what its like to only get 48.7% possession and be on the end of 43 shots off target in the first half. I predict 1-0 Town.

Did I mention that this is the first time I’ve done a match report?

No LV x-apple-data-detectors://1? Thought the night games would be ideal for him?

Nah, listening in before 4am is not an ideal time, Perth is eight hours ahead of the UK. Besides, I didn't have a great feeling about this one!

If Vaughan is injured, then Town have been lumbered with a crocked player.

Had did Widey Ward do?

No playoff interest now, just consolidation and the giddy excitement of a new season after the World Cup. Up The Lions!

Forest scored a couple in the final 8 mins when we were pushing for an equaliser and the final 3-0 score flattered them, although we couldn't really complain about the final outcome.

Unfortunately we just can't rely on the injury prone Vaughan, who did next to nothing before he was crocked and replaced by Wardy, who had half a dozen near misses and was the only Town player who looked like scoring over the full 90 minutes.

As for the ref, he was the usual garbage we are coming to expect, particularly when he booked Vaughan for a nothing offence and then soon afterwards he let their goalkeeper off scott free, when he ran out of his goal and flattened Hogg, without making any attempt to play the ball and he should have been red carded.

However, we gave Forest far too much respect and persisted in playing too many high balls into their penalty area, which were food & drink for their three extra tall central defenders.

Overall we were in the game until they scored their first, after our players failed to pick up Reid, who waved from the centre circle for a quick Forest throw in, which we failed to pick up as the ball was played quickly forward by Reid to Patterson, who had no trouble in beating Smithies.

So overall a flattering score line for Forest, but as I said earlier I've no complaints with the final outcome and would have been more than happy to settle for a point before a ball was kicked.

So, if we can pick up all three points against Brum on Saturday, then I'll be well happy with a return of 6 points from the last 3 games.

Unusually clinical finishing from Forest away from home. A bit too direct from Huddersfield IMO, although you hit the woodwork twice.

Enjoyed the banter with you Terriers. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Keep on trumpin'

Forest definitely deserved the win, they were quicker to the ball, on the ball and did something with the ball. They looked strong and it mattered to them to win and keep moving and trying things.

We on the other hand were slow and sluggish a lot of the time and had quite a few half chances but never had any clear cut chances.

The ref was atrocious, probably the worst we have had for many a year. He booked Vaughan for nothing and then let many players off for worse fouls, missed many fouls and then after a few good shouts for a penalty he refused, when we were brought down in the box he was clearly seeing things as he awarded a freekick a few metres away outside the box. The thing was there was no contact until we got in the box so its either a penalty or nothing, he just wimped out or had a few quid on the outcome, not sure which.

Not sure why people are complaining on the Darlow/Hogg incident. I was sat near enough in line with it and though Darlow had won the ball fair and square. But in the interest of I might have judged it wrong I've watched it again on Forest player (nearly 10mins of Highlights) and again I can't see what the keeper did wrong.

Fair play to Forest, they have better players than us. More skill, more control and better finishing when presented with a chance. They deserved the win but 0-3 was a tad harsh on us

Best of luck for the rest of the season, as I mentioned before I don't mind your club. Hope you can have a nice strong finish to the season and maybe take some points off the clubs around us
