This subject popped up on last nights match thread and it got me wondering; who is the worse player, Young or Valencia?
I think we can all agree that both are pretty terrible, but I think Valencia is probably the lesser of two evils.
Because at least Valencia has previously played well for the club (albeit not for a long time, but he did have that season a few years ago where he looked good, remember?) whereas Young seems incapable of stringing together more than two decent performances and more often than not contributes nothing. Plus Valencia will put a shift in and does offer some defensive cover.
It's a close call but I would have to go with Valencia.
But the bottom line is, we definitely need some new wingers.
Valencia or Young?

Is this what it has come to now at United?
Not who is the best player between x and y but who is the worst?

who is the best or who is the worst... you ultimately end up with the same answer, so potato / potato

Young is more versatile and has shown fairly recently he still has some ability left in him, but not enough considering the wages he's on.

Nobody knows what wages he is on

No one knows for sure but with all the wages you do read about that he is on I'm pretty sure he is one of our highest paid players. I know you don't like to read what the media say and most of the time they talk nonsense but there is usually an ounce of truth in their reports. They can't just make krap up out of thin air.

Unfortunately, they can and do. Especially when it comes to things the club are unlikely to deny or substantiate, like wages, player fees, agent fees etc etc

Knowing quite a lot of people who work in journalism (not sports) there will be at least the smallest element of truth. What football journalism love to do is sensationalise but I would imagine Young is one of the top earners in our squad, not saying he is on 120k but it will still be a lot.

Young is the more gifted player but Valencia was very consistent. (used to be consistent)
I would play Young and Adnan on the wings, they can both change with ease

Yes they can
See Custis's climbdown and apology yesterday, the day after his United exclusive
Wages are complete guesswork

I think you dismiss and look at the media far too simplistically. Yes they can be terrible and sensationalise so many things but these journalists do this for a living, they have direct contact to players, managers, clubs, agents, you name it. They hear far far far more than any of us do and because of that are able to get news out that the common man wouldn't.
I'm not saying everything they say is true, far from it. But stuff like wages is probably information that is not that hard to get through the correct sources.
Just speaking to friends who work in journalism for papers like The Guardian, Independent, Times, Mail and Sun regarding other topics you hear so many things it's shocking but they are usually not allowed to publish.

When you put comment like 'considering the wages he is on' it suggests you believe exactly what they print
Even if they could find out, I;m pretty sure they are not gonna print the actual amount. It will be inlfated by as much as they think they can get away with
Because they did it to Rooney in 2010, it left them nowhere really to go this time in terms of exagerating the amount. They could hardly put 350k or 400k could they because that would make them look stupid. 300k is about all they could get away
But, a 50k increase is hardly newsworthy is it and they needed more BS to print to make it look like Roo has us under his thumb
Hence the captain story and and the laughable trransfer policy story
They play subtle tricks to try to make us think a story is true. IE, quotes and then adding in another comment without quotes to make us believe its all true
The best one of all the Rooney rubbish that was printed in the summer was the one that said he was angry with Moyes about him saying that Roo will be needed incase RVP was injured. The papers insisting Moyes meant Roo was to play second fiddle to RVP when any United fan worth his salt knows they play in different positions. The way they went on and on about that was just laughable in the extreme. There were people postingon here with BS like, 'in 2010 he wanted us to sign better players and now we have, in his position, he isn;t happy'
I must have responded to that with the truth about a 100 times at least on here in the Summer
The papers wouldnt let it go that Roo was pizzed with Moyes
The truth though was that Roo's camp had apparently said Roo was pizzed off with the Media interpretation of Moyes comments. I saw Sky news report on it
Well, for an hour or so because not long after they changed it to 'reports are saying that Rooney was angry with Moyes' Ie. they had seen a different interpretation of it at another source
Then all the papers went with it
Fegire talks about how everthing you say is twisted by the press in his book. He even put a couple of examples in it
Finally I would say that I listened to an interview with Roo a couple of years back and he came across brilliant, humble, and just wanting to play football. He mentioned that 90% of what is written about him in the press is complete bollox
You could tell quite easily he wasn't lying.
