No real surprises in the squad bar Paul Green retaining his place for the mean time. I was hoping the likes of Curtis Davies and Nathan Redmond would be named, maybe it'll be after the World Cup and when the qualifiers start they'll come on board. Maybe even Stephen Ireland to give us something to talk about.

I thought we might get the shock inclusion of Ireland and Given. But MON's reasoning for not including both seems sound.
Not sure about Daryl Murphy though.......

Yeah, there is a lot of dead wood in there still. Maybe players don't like making decisions on declaring International status mid season.
I think Meyler deserves a shot in midfield beside McCarthy, although Reid has also been playing well at Forest.
Coleman is our stand out player, and the one player we have who would not look out of place in any of the last 16 Champions Lge ties going on this week, and under O'Neill he could get even better.
O'Neill has that knack of making good players better and who knows who will benefit from his stewardship. Hopefully he can take the likes of Clark, McCarthy, Brady and Long to the next level. That would give us the nucleus of a good side. Confident of qualification for France given the new format.

Disappointed Eunan O'Kane didnt get a call, he's certainly worth a look, more so than Paul Green!
So clearly no developments as yet in our pursuits of Bamford, Redmond, Davies, Noble, Bunn... etc.
Good to see call ups for Elliott, Keogh, Pearce, Meyler and Andy Reid holding his spot. Not too bothered about whether Stephen Ireland returns also a number of scottish based players might be a little disappointed hoping O'Neill with his ties to the SPL might have considered one or two of them. Pity to see old Trap carthorses Cox and Green called up

Agree with you about O'Kane. He has been steadily rising to prominence since his days at Torquay. A few Premiership players in front of him especially if and when Ireland and Gibson come back in but his time may yet come, he is only 23ish.
I think Cox is decent back up, as a striker. He was given a hard time by fans whilst being played out of position on the wing. Remember when we were almost totally reliant on Robbie Keane before Kevin Doyle came along, so it is good to have as many options as possible playing at Championship level up for when Keane and Doyle eventually finish. Cox could yet play PL football again playing for a good Championship side in Forest.
In defence hopefully Joey O'Brien has a part to play and Shane Duffy is a prospect, although he may find it hard to make it at Everton as they seem to think highly of John Stones despite Duffy performing well any chance he has had in the first team.

I'm a Forest fan and I can assure you Cox is useless, I wouldnt say overrated coz bar Trap and an odd few managers I'm not that aware of people who particularly rate him. He scored 6 in 40 for Forest last season which is appalling. Not prolific enough for championship football, he's L1 or L2 at best, nowhere near international standard and goes missing for long parts of games!! Most Forest fans I speak to dont rate him whatsoever and want rid and our best run of form this season at xmas coinciding with his injury absence from the team. Seems to have a touch of the Kevin Kilbane's about him whereby managers and team mates like him coz he's a nice guy but his ability doesnt warrant the chances he keeps getting!!

Shane Duffy's a great prospect and doing very well at Yeovil, really hoping he steps up next season as we badly need him. The lack of caps Joey O'Brien has had is a disgrace, another one of a dozen plus players who were badly mistreated by the ignorant dinosaur Trap!
