Strongest Team

With a number of injured players coming back it will be interesting to see what Rodgers picks as his strongest 11. Personally although we didn't do so well against arsenal for me 3-5-2 gets our best players in there number 1 positions.

Gk- Mignolet

LWB - Enrique/Johnson
LCB - Sakho
CB - Agger
RCB - Skrtel
RWB - Sterling

CM - Gerrard
CM - Hendo

ACM - Coutinho

FW - Sturridge
FW - Suarez

Personally I can't see Suarez accepting a wing position too much longer. His goals have dried up of late and top four or not if one of the big boys come in and we continue to play him on the wing I can see him wanted out.

In the Arsenal game I think it was because Monreal was their weak link in defence.

Suarez hasn't been playing as an out and out wide man. He and Sturridge switch it about all the time. One goes wide the other goes in the middle, one drops deep the other goes up top. They always know where the other one is. Its very good team work and its very difficult for defenders to pick them up.

I can only guess at it reducing the attention he gets?
If he plays wing he is 1v1 vs the full back whereas in the centre he has both centre backs and 1of the 2 defensive midfielders that most teams field against us all on him.

Playing out wide gets him more space/time and he doesnt get tracked as much in runs where he cuts in for through balls from cout/stevie and he is then runnig face at goal reducing the time needed for him to get a shot off.
Also if he drags a centre back out wide it leaves studge 1v1, if he drags a dm we far outnumber midfield and if winger drops back, full back pushes a lots further.

Maybe?

I don't think Suarez has not been scoring because of his position.

I just think he has been missing chances and getting less chances because we have been playing better teams recently.

He hits the woodwork every game virtually as well.

Like it or not but when Suarez is told to occupy a wide role he also has to do the job of tracking back. He was pretty ineffective when he was operating on the right against Arsenal. When we went down to 2-0 the word must have come out to play more centrally and then we got to see his more effective work.

Sadly there is no formation other than 3 at back or 4-4-2 to allow Suarez to play in middle.

RWB - Sterling

Sterling can play as AB auxiliary full back as his recovery pace is excellent and he doesn't dive into challenges.

But his attacking attributes mean he has to in the final third of the field a lot more.

And Gerrard can play at LB and still be the best player on the park, that doesn't make it a good idea.

Nah, in that LB position he gave away a penalty and a few fouls.

people sating three at the back doesn't work are silly.. they should go take a look at the average position of gerrard in each match since he started his deeper role..

he is usually deeper than the CB's, brendan has been stealthily playing three at the back for weeks and nobody has noticed!!

the problem is that fans need to see a formation to understand things, we don't really play one, if we did you would have to set it up as a 3-4-3 really as reflected by heat maps

-----Skrtel-----Gerrard-----Agger
Flanno---------------------Cissokho
----------------Henderson----------
--------Coutinho--------------------
frontA----------frontB--------frontC

and it works.. you will often see gerrard in midfield because he comes out like a "Stopper" while agger and skrtel are "sitters"

people need to move past the traditional 90's style "formations" and learn that a mixture of job roles is far more important these days, that you don't need to have three midfielders to have people competing for the ball in the middle of the park, rather you need people in roles that allows them to roam and do so. in this case gerrard henderson and coutinho all compete in the "middle" to obtain the ball, but skrtel and agger average pass locations on the halfway line meaning.they help to pass the ball around the midfield.
