Fans of Divine Divinity

Larian Studios is releasing the next game in the Divinity universe. Divinity: Original Sin. A turn based rpg in the old style of Balders Gate and Ultima 7. In fact there have been loads of comparisons to those games. Lorain has apparently wanted to release a turn-based RPG for a while now but it's publishers wouldn't give them the OK. It's available on steam as an early access. The actual release date is still feb 28th.

I paid for the early access to see what the fuss and hype was about. To tell the truth I am very excited. I only played for maybe a couple of hours as I didn't want to get too far and those who pay for early access get the finished game on release day. The game itself was of course buggy and missing many things that will be available when finished but I understand what they are going for and the co-op is extremely exciting.

The world is insanely interactive. You can pick up/move just about anything. You can use a bucket as a helmet. You can combine items to create others. A piece of wood and nails for example will allow you to create....well a piece of wood with nails sticking out of it. Magic is based on elements which I love. You can take advantage of surfaces ie. using a fire spell to set the ground covered in oil on fire which multiplies the damage done to an enemy.

Another thing that is promising is the decision making when playing with another player. You can have disagreements or work together developing other skills because of cooperation or lack of. There's a nice sense of humour throughout which I love. Some nods to past games (Morrowind etc) and it will come with a full modding system. This could be one of the most exciting rpg's to come out for a long time.
