Van Gaal

Will he be a success at Spurs if appointed?

Looking through his career it seems littered with successes at big clubs but also big fallouts with media and top players. I know at Spurs we arent really in a position to turn our noses up at a household name like him but the more I read about the guy the more I have my concerns.

Anyone know much about him? How does he like his teams to play etc?

All indications I can see at the moment are that we are just waiting it out until after the world cup and we've more of less already offered him the job. He did an interview just the other day saying he wants to manage in the premiership and Spurs have already been in touch.

Van Gaal has an impressive CV, played over 300 games as a professional.
Has managed Ajax, AZ, Barcelona (twice) Bayern Munich & now Holland (twice)...................

He has also won both the Uefa Cup & The Champions League with Ajax as well as getting Bayern to the CL Final losing to Mourinho's Inter Milan.

Yes he has had his share of confrontations, but these are in my opinion outweighed by his tactical nous & his ability to make good players better!

Im not trying to be rude here GG, just genuinely curious.

However everything what you said could have been taken as a summary of his wikipedia page.

What have you actually seen him do that is so exceptional?

Van Gaal if he were to come would only be a success if the comes in and gets rid of some of the dross that has been around the club for far to long.

I actually saw Van Gaal's Ajax play in the 90's & they were a great team to watch, playing open & attacking football. Have been a fan of both him & Dutch football for a long time.

How else do we judge a manager if not by his achievements & trophies?

Aye fair enough then.

There are a few reasons why I wouldnt judge a manager by his trophies (Juande Ramos being one), however I would rather have a manager who would come in as a right 'fit' to the club, or at least a proper plan that would work with our players. As opposed to a once talented manager coming in and making a complete shambles of it.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees that even a top manager will succeed.

It is a risk business & sometimes gambles pay off, nothing would delight me more if Sherwood proved me completely wrong. I just think we are a) Not a club for a novice manager b) The right starting point for Sherwood, he needs to go and cut his teeth on a lower league club like MK Dons or Doncaster etc

Levy likes a yes man.
He is holding his own legacy back by his stubborn nature.
The bald caant.

This basically sums it up. Seems to like to be seen as 'the man' and probably feels that managers get all the adulation unduly so he wants a piece of the pie. A bit like clown referees like coward Webb trying to hog the limelight with his shocking decisions
