This is for the people who don’t realize that Paul Scholes was 168cm, light weight, call him a terrible tackler, didn’t have a lot of assist, and didn’t score a lot of goals in his last 5 years in the club and was still our best midfielder by far when fit.

For Modric to work alongsiide Carrick we would have to play with 3 CM's.
We would be far to lightweight with just those two in the middle. That has always been my concern with Modric.
--------------------
I’m sorry for my rant in advance, but WTF#c? does a lightweight mean in world football today and what does it say about players game in general!!!
‘Lightweight’ fools annoy me beyond belief. Modrić is a complete midfielder. He has become great tackler and interceptor of a ball. If you compare his tackles and interceptions on WhoScored . com he is similar tackler, interceptor to: Schweinsteiger, Fabregas, Toni Kroos, Gundogan, Xavi, Scholes. In fact if you only watch this season he is BETTER THAN ALL of them. And that is 5 years of data from Premier League, Champions League, La Liga and Bundesliga.
If you want to compare tackling and ball interception data, and never heard of what WhoSocred is. That is only reliable source I know that offers this data. It offers data from the last 5 season.

This is how Luka Modrić plays this season after he had his first proper preseason with Real, and Ancellotti and Zidane implanted their football philosophy in the Madrid team:

People who think that football players should be off certain height and weight to be good in playing any position in football are fools. You have short and tall strikers, midfielders, and defenders that are brilliant at what they do and have played in any of the formations that you want. (Lahm 170cm,Javi Martinez 189cm) (Lahm 170cm,Ivanović 188cm) (Mascherano 173cm,Canavaro 176cm,Ferdinand 192cm,Pique 192cm) (Puyol 179cm, Mertesacker 198cm) (Ramos 183sm,Thiago Silva 183 cm,Company 191cm) (Ibrahimović 195cm,Drogba 191cm,Aguero 173cm,Messi 169) (Xavi 170cm,Busquets 189cm) (Ronaldo 186cm, Hazard 170cm) (Matić 194cm, Fellaini 194cm,Vidal 180cm, Wilshere 173) (Bale 186cm, Shaquir 169cm, Robben 180cm) (Vearrati 165cm, T. Motta 187 cm)
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT OF A FOOTBALLER ARE IRELLEVANT, if they can produce what their managers ask of them. I thought that it’s common knowledge in football.
Anybody who watched what Guardiola did with Lahm at Bayern playing him MC and DM (the “most intelligent football he has ever worked with") has to know it.
On 3 occasions Santiago Bernabeu had standing ovations for Mordić cheering his name, and that is very rare at Santiago Bernabeu.
Standing ovations:

People who don't rate Modrić are not watching him play, are idiots or are just liars who lie that they watch him play. I'm a big fan of his. My favorite players are Xavi, Pirlo, Gundogan, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Modirć and my pure love to watch Scholes play was endless. I think a team that has a world class deep playing playmaker has to play an attractive football. Modrić is only player close to Scholes at dictating tempo. That is what we lack, someon to grab the game by its balls. Someone to spray the passes whit ease, to be good when in tight situations, someone who can relief whole of our team of pressure with his intelligent dribbles movement and quick passing. IMO Modrić is best player in the world in doing this. I know we will probably go for someone like Kroos, Gundogan or Vidal, because Modrić is unreachable right know because of Ancelloti and Zidane who wouldn’t let him go for almost any kind of money. And I will be happy about any of the them
But if in some sort of scenario Modrić would play his last 4-5 years of career at United, I would be over the moon about it.
MESSI AMONG THE MIDFIELDERS, that’s how I will call that little genius from this day forward. Imo the most intelligent footballer I know off.
Sorry about the rant. But can we stop calling players small and light weight when we have Hazard 170cm,Lahm 170cm,Iniesta 171cm,Xavi 170cm,Silva 170cm,Mata 170cm,Verrati 165cm, Scholes 168cm, Modrić 172 cm dominating our midfield which is Carrick 189cm, Fellaini 194cm.
Sorry for my English.

I don't think VC mentioned anything about height. I'm not sure if your hafijur style database of heights was needed!
____________
This.
Although I think he is still wrong. Modric is capable of playing in a 2.

So should we sign the Nigerian national team as they dominated Xabi, Iniesta and co too even though they lost?

When did the Nigerian team dominate them?

In the confederations cup. As a matter of fact if Emenike was playing they would have beaten Spain as they opened them up with ease on multiple occasions

Modric played with Alonso in a two for Real.

Thing with Modric at Spurs is that Spurs always bent over for the big teams. It was a Spurs problem rather than a Modric problem, in my opinion.
Plus I think Modric has really matured as a player since playing at Madrid and is just playing at a different level to when he was in the prem.
Not being as good as Paul Scholes shouldn't be a slight on him, not many are.
But in world football there are very few midfielders better than Modric.
MUDD, you say we need midfielders that press the ball, well that's just what Modric does in central midfield.
But when he's on the ball he's also quality.
Fantastic player and would walk into our midfield blindfolded.

...............
Yes.
And they work why?
Because Alonso has more of a physical presence than Carrick.
Alonso doesn't shadow mark, and let opposing midfielders have all day to pass it where they want.

Obviously only one who watched him for Spurs and Real Madrid. SAF liked Modrić when he played for Spurs, and in Fenruary 2011/2012 he said that player of the season for him is Luka Modrić, and that Spurs play best football in the league back then. Clearly he liked him then, IMO he wasn’t going to bid for a Tottenham player because of difficult Berbatov transfer back then, Modrić would be just too expensive for us.

So sad we didn’t go for him back then, now that ship has sailed, I’m afraid.
