I don't think salary caps can ever work in football to be honest , you can't compare it to a closed franchise like the NFL.

Melts

I agree, and to be fair to SLM, that is the jist of what he was saying.

Wage caps are a ridiculous idea. Imagine your boss telling you that you can only earn so much money, you'd tell him to feck off.

why you would be infringing on the human rights of the players.

Its all about demand and supply, Rooney must know how much money him being at United generates for them on and off the pitch. These figures aren't randomly chosen, fact is if United didn't offer him £300 000 per week someone else would especially considering that they would be able to buy him for very little this summer.

It has a salary cap which limits each team's spending, a revenue-sharing system, effectively a tax, which transfers money from the high-earning franchises to the poorer teams and most interestingly of all, the NFL Draft

New York Yankees always have to pay the luxury tax (By going over the salary cap) They pay the amount that they are over, I think, and that goes to help the lower team...at least, that's the way it should be.

Yep, I agree with what SLM put VC.

Personally, my issue with a wage cap is that I don't trust them to implement it right even if they could, I wonder where that additional money would actually go.
