The Town end....

FM Lower is open for all Town fans on Saturday as part of the 'trial' to see how much demand there actually is for a 'home end'.

SC holders can get in with their SC regardless which stand it is for...via turnstiles 41-43. It's first come first served and capacity is reduced to 1,750 (from 1,944)..It's unreserved seating.

Non SC holders have to buy a ticket (print at home) before the game and the prices are a mere £15 Adult, £10 concession.

Existing SC holders in the FM Lower can use turnstile 40, but their regular seats are not guaranteed or they can go in any other stand at no extra cost.

That's a fair enough deal by Town and it will be interesting to see if Town fans get anywhere near filling it after the first trial was taken up by only 400 or so, although it was rotten weather.

The club warn that persistent 'standing' is not permitted (yeah right)..

So, who's giving it a go then ?

In a poor home crowd (12,200) I suppose , what, 500 in the FML ?

It will take time though, many are not moving yet to see what it's like first..see how many others go in..and will join in when (or if) it grows...Town need to stick with this..AND make it available next season for SC holders as a SINGING stand...kick the kids out..send them upstairs.

Y'day I didn't go in the FML in the end, Kilner...only 'cos my son didn't really want to take his 3 yo in there in case it was too noisy and scared him, or if it rained...

It is the worst stand in the stadium though, no accoustics and tbh where we were sat (opp pen box at the south end) we couldn't really hear much noise..it's not a patch on the away end..but then Barnsley had 2,000 in there..

The next 'trial' is Blackburn ?...if less people go in the FML than y'day I reckon Oil will scrap it..that would be a mistake..many have SC for other stands, with mates/family..they won't move..but if it becomes available next season, at a decent (cheap) price..then it might work.

It needs at least 1,000 in there (capacity 1,944)..if you get to 1,500 it will have an impact..it looked good anyway, those 2 sections which were full..and imagining the whole stand full..it would be impressive..it needs momentum...

I hope Town don't ditch it..once it gets the 800-1,000 many more will follow...

I think it will get scrapped really. Too bright in good weather and wet through in inclement weather.

Has the whole idea been set up to fail?

Yeah LV. you could be right.

Jacko's onto it...
This has to be given time, and more will be attracted as numbers grow over time.

But I also agree....
A horrible 'end' for such a venture.

The next trial is the Bolton game it seems..and if the numbers go up, and by the sound of what fans have said about it that seems likely, then maybe it will be given a years' trial for all of next season ? Priced at the current levels..

It's wouldn't be my 1st choice as a stand, but if it gets somewhere near capacity then I think it would have a positive impact on any future debate about the South Stand.

When the time comes with the standing terraces will be the time to assess things...maybe. Spend money on a proper terrace in the FML, or look at the other end..depends on numbers, if the FML is full (1,900) then who knows.

The way I see it the FML is the only logical option for a singing section right now. When we have opened up the South Stand or the FML the turnout hasnt been that great and so doubt we would get more than 1,000 in there for a while atleast. Therefore we would lose too much revenue by not giving those seats in the South Stand to the away fans and that doesnt make any sense.

I have to say that as a stand it is lousy, the high roof means it provides no protection from wind, rain or sun. It never could and therefore cant be a decent "family" experience anyway. When my son is old enough then he will join me in the Kilner Bank not in some poxy temporary stand. The ground is safe and now its smoke free then its only bad language that is an issue in the other stands and given the language parents use as kids games anyway its not like they are not exposed to it.

I think people are being overly suspicious that the club has some hidden agenda, I think it comes down to cold hard cash. If the law allowed and they could fill 2,000 standing behind the goal week in week out you know they would do it in a heartbeat but until that point why should they outlay the cash.

In response to the play off comment earlier, dont forget our fans were battered by Old Trafford and that had an effect. I will be honest and say I didnt go to Wembley the last time and OT was a big factor in that. When we played Bristol Rovers we were on a high with the new stadium and the novelty of doing well for a change!!! Boothy was a top player at that point and we had been starved of success and so it was that much sweeter.

RUBBISH MB...absolute Cat flap.

The Bristol final was a better memory because the atmosphere was far far better in every way.
WHY !
because The Rovers & Town fans ....Wait for it

HAD THE OPTION TO STAND

forget the Old Trafford final....Town fans had become fully paid up members of the 'Foggy Compo & Clegg' club long before then.

The 'Sheff United' final at Wembley confirmed this.
The weak as 'peace' Town fans ALL...yes ALL of you sat darn..There was no atmosphere or vocal support for our lads whatso ever.. I was there ..Stood up. Don't even try & tell me different.

And don't give me any shiite about 'heath & safety' regs or any other excuse you can concoct
Why !
because as blatant as a flat cap on Clegg ()
That very same end the week before was packed out with West ham fans...who......
Who did what MB....
What did they do, They stood up, corner flag to corner flag through out the whole game.

And was it not for that duck egg Sheff united keeper blasting the last penalty over the bar....That final too would have been a horror memory & 'another' dour final.

Hilarious

We've all become a set of wusses...

In days gone by, many grounds didn't have roofs..some didn't even have concrete terraces...just grassy banks to stand on. When it rained you got drenched..right through to your socks and underpants...and you remained wet until you got home and took your clothes off...That's how it was. It didn't stop fans from going to games, or singing and chanting...

Now we've all become nurtured into all seater, all roofed stadiums..and conditioned into 'polite applause' with stewards and police keeping a watching eye to ensure you don't get 'over-excited'.

In any area of life there are a few numpties, not just football. When I see Rugby Union fans supping beer from bottles on the telly, with flags and various types of adornments ..having fun..it makes me angry that football has been so suppressed.

Somehow we have to make a stand (no pun intended)..if we don't fight for our right to reclaim the game from the H & S and regulators the game will just become more and more bland.

Small steps, like occupying the FML...shaking off this 'oh I'm going to get wet' stuff and attempting to claim back some of the rights we used to have..the right to sing and chant, the right to stand if we want, the right to take flags and banners...the right to have a pint on the terraces (yes we used to be able to do that not so long ago..)...the right to have FUN.

We should also stand up for ourselves when trouble makers spoil it all ,by demanding these are a tiny minority and that it is UNFAIR to punish everybody for the sake of a few idiots.

We should also realise that Hillsborough happened because of bad policing, criminal actions and not because of the fans behaviour...the fans in the Leppings Lane end were innocent of any wrong doing..and yet the backlash from that still resonates to this very day with the anti standing lobby.

If we don't make demands, then we don't have the right to complain to others about what we disagree with..moaning while doing nothing is feeble to be honest.

So, get yourself into the FML..fill the stand , make some noise and remind yourself and show others what fun it all used to be like..Next season Town will give us that stand as a permanent home...and then when there is a waiting list of other like minded fans wanting to take part..we can make a justifiable bid for the South Stand....that is the ultimate aim, but we've got to take the first small steps to achieve this...

Well I went to Wembley for the Bristol game and I sat down for most of the game(behind the goal upper section) the atmosphere was ok not brilliant
I also went to Wembley for the Sheff Utd game and I didn't sit down once(behind the goal bottom tier at the very back) the atmosphere was poor but then everyone was so tense what else did we expect

I have to say I enjoyed the Cardiff final more than the Wembley one (Bristol) as Wembley was rubbish as a stadium, poor views, uncomfortable seats and I dont remember some out of this world atmosphere. Now this is also an age thing as for the Cardiff final I was old enough to have a few beers and enjoy the day out in Cardiff and its a brilliant stadium. I dont remember the atmosphere there as any worse or better to be honest.

I think there are too many rose tinted glasses where the past is always better and "we had fun then but its rubbish now" which is a typical grumpy old man view of the world and not true at all. This happens every generation where its suddenly not as good as the one before (if you are of a certain mindset). For example there was a time when a big town game closed the factories of Huddersfield with attendances which would shame most Premier League clubs even with their international fan base. But I doubt anyone on here was alive in those days and so never experienced it but I know my Great Uncle always said it was better than the 60s and 70s but thats perspective for you.

If people want to have the FML as a standing area then all power to you, its a good idea. The trouble is every time the club offer it up (or the South Stand for that matter) its only a small percentage of the overall crowd that take up the offer. Im sure that will grow a bit but I doubt we will ever get to the point of filling 4,000 behind the goal in the South Stand.

The issue is we wouldnt be increasing our gate, more fans who would go in one of the other stands would be in there instead. If they got a lot of new fans in then it would pay for itself and be a no brainer, its up to the people who care about it to stop moaning and start supporting it by getting a ticket there whenever its on offer. If we are going to have a push for the Premier League as Dean suggests then our crowds will likely increase in the next 5 years and thats the perfect time to make this happen.
