Tom Cleverley

Just what is the point of this player ? i know some people on here defend him like he is their brother which i find quite frankly strange.

But what does he actually do besides give the ball away, run about and make simple 5 yard passes that anyone could do. He looks lost at sea in most games, just aimlessly chasing around in midfield but achieving absolutely nothing for his efforts.

Last night was prime example of this, he makes even the poorest of sides look good sometimes because he is that bad.

I honestly believe that i could do the same job he does, he is not a PL footballer he is stealing money from the club and the only reason he is still here is because he is English and came through the ranks. But this alone should not mean he gets so many chances to stink up the pitch.

This is Man Utd now Fulham, you could accept a player like that (kind of) at Fulham but Man Utd should have world class players not players who effectively render team down to ten men when they start.

If he was from another country and played this bad he would have been flogged long ago.

The whole team was pants last night, you lot shouldn't make Cleverly your scapegoat, i can see he's a easy target but you need to focus this anger at the whole team and manager.

Henderson had an issue with confidence but in terms of ability he is well ahead of Cleverley. He is physically stronger, much more speed and better passing range as well having high energy for the pressing game.

He doesn't even come close to Hendo. He's maybe more Joe Allen level.

Henderson in my opinion will continue to improve. I hope we see the best of him next season. Tom Cleverly is not anywhere near Hendersons level.

Cleverley is scared of doing anything positive with the ball. Same with Carrick to a certain extent.

I agree with this.

I agree, Henderson is a good player who took a year to settle after taking a step up and will steadily improve over the next couple of years. I don’t think he’ll ever set the world alright but he can further establish himself as an important player. Cleverley shouldn’t be scapegoated but it amazes me he still starts so many games for a club like United. If they struggle to rebuild that will be his best chance of a future, assuming United do attract some talent I can see Cleverley eventually playing for a club in the bottom half.

Your biggest problem last night was that as a team you lacked any intensity to win the ball back when you lost it. Where as Olympiakos hounded your players to win the ball. The Utd players just stood off them and let them misplace passes and still didn't retain possession, it was quite a miserable game to watch.

Cleverley is a neat, tidy player, good for maintaining tempo and shape but takes little individual responsibility to make anything happen going forward. He'd have a decent PL career at smaller clubs but he isn't a United standard player.

It's interesting because if utd played in similar way to how liverpool currently play, I think you would see an improvement in his play; however he should be a squad player for utd and not a starter.

Muzzy – agree re intensity, so often United played lazy passes that lacked purpose, the Greeks were well up for it and exploited this. It was explosive desire against a team that just didn’t look up for it. Passes were cut out and players were hounded in to making mistake. I couldn’t tell if United were tired, disinterested or nervous.

“My job goes under the radar at times. I am not a player who’s going to beat three or four people and stick it in the top corner or go round tackling people like Roy Keane."

So tom what is it that you exactly do?,oh yes, that's right,b*gger all.
