I'd say dark forces are at work, and can only be appeased by some sort of ghastly human sacrifice.

We need to lure one of the Derby fans who infest this board to the CG under a cunning pretext, put them in a wicker man on the centre spot, add a few livestock, and set fire to it at sunset while singing pagan songs.

There could be problems with health and safety but I'm sure these could be overcome.
