Sturridge is indeed the Deirdre Barlow of the international stage

Now we know you're clueless. Rooney is, without a shadow of doubt, the Deirdre Barlow of football....

One wonders how the national team would fare without Rooney.
It would be an experiment I would like to see. Maybe play Gerrard behind Sturridge.

Sometimes people are beyond help.

He's scored a decent amount of goals for Liverpool this season, so I wouldn't say he's beyond help. He just needs to be given a chance.

manutd, you may well have a point with regard to Welbeck. I for one really expected him to kick on and become The Next Big Thing at OT, but it just hasn't happened. To be honest, when he arrived,I'd never even heard of Sturridge far less seen him play. I wouldn't describe Wellbeck as being greedy either. The nearest person we've got, engine-wise, although a different player, is Henderson. Both run their hearts out when playing. Maybe he does need more games as you say.

Don't back track, you said Welbeck has proven himself at international level.
One for the JA606 vault that one.. just in time for an England match too!

A goal every other game, even Shearer would be happy with that goal return
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Again with the scoring rate. Crouch and Lambert have better scoring rates than Shearer, Rooney and Owen.
I actually don't dislike Welbeck, in fact I think he was one of the few players to emerge from the Euros with any credit at all. However using stats like this to say someone is a proven international player just doesn't work in my opinion. The quality of opposition you play against is just too varied.

Ah good old LFC fans. Use his lack of goals for United to bash Welbs, then ignore his decent return for England.

Scored yesterday, well done Studge. Probably England's best striker.
Welbeck, doesn't have that cutting edge, on a par with Grant Holt.
