Brewers 1 Vale 1

Another very entertaining game of football. We are certainly getting good value for money. I enjoyed that game.

I think we were second best tonight and I am happy with the point. Vale were stronger and so incredibly quick to close down. We got given and created very little space all evening. Yet the Brewers tried really hard and everyone gave 100%.

Despite the fact that Vale looked better organised, stronger and a bit more physical - they did not actually create that much if you think about it. An excellent save from Ross in the second half was the only time that he was really worked.

Yet again we created 3 one on ones that went begging.

Some people around me were moaning that we had taken a lead and conceded again. Last season folk were moaning because we conceded first. Someone has to score first in games!

Tom Parkes was without doubt the Man of the Match. He won everything in the air and threw himself in to every challenge. I really hope that he is ok.

I was surprised by the substitution. Taking off our supply line (Palmer) when Maghoma was not playing particularly well and putting Jimmy on - on the right wing? Never quite sure whether Jimmy is up to it these days to be quite honest though he did put a few decent crosses in. Surely Jimmy on the left for Maghoma would have been better.

I thought we would lose our first 3 games so I am happy.

I agree that Parkes deserved man of the match but I think Phillips looked better on the right than i've ever seen him on the left

A very fair assessment ,otep.!

I don't think we were anywhere near as good as Saturday, but it was a solid performance, and there was plenty of activity and excitement.

As you stated Port Vale were well organised, and are a completely different set-up to Shrewsbury. The thing I felt was for most of the first half we contained them, limited the chances they had, and I reckon its because Bolder and Macca held the midfield.

In the 2nd half, they were quicker to the ball, and often able to run the ball through the centre and down the flanks, and created loads of chances. We looked vulnerable in the 2nd half but the defence held it ok.

Agree that Tom Parkes was man of match but I felt that the much maligned, Tony James wasnt far behind , sharp to the tackle, and put himself about more than normal.

Hoped we could have sneaked one near the end, but it wasn't to be. So another exciting game, good performance, but still await the first win. Lets hope it comes at Southend on Saturday . We may have to be patient, and keep faith!

C'mon you Brewers!

Excellent game, looked great going forward and dodgy when teams threaten us.From my point of view our full backs look very unsteady, one cant pass a ball and the other gets pulled out of position to many times, yes Webster.I thought he was to blame for the goal because TJ was pulled out to cover him,and also Mags didnt have a bad game really better than hes been in the past.Listen Guys we have got 3 points from 3 hard games and i am well satisfied. Good luck to Parksy on a speedy recovery he will be missed more so than the full backs.

Another good performance last night against a very well
organised side who im sure will at least make the play offs.
Do not think anyone had a bad game yes we all know about
Ronnies distribution but hey we have not had a reconised right back since we have been in the League.
Bad news about Tom Parkes agree that we should get a loan player in because the players we have to step in are just not good enough.
Good start to the season and all the best to Tom hope you are soon back in a Brewers shirt.

I actually really rate Rhino. He is not too dissimilar to Parkes in his defending. An excellent passer of the ball and he offers an option on the 'shoot at goal' free kick options.

If I was Pesch I would be saying to him 'Go out and make that shirt yours. I am going to put my faith in you and prove to me that I am right to do that'.

I might be wrong but do I sense that our estimation of Stanno has decreased ever so slightly since he arrived? He is a good solid defender and I recall some great performances and last ditch tackles last season. Yet he doesn't get mentioned much.

Think the fact that he spends most of the time injured.
Go along with what you say about Austin but im just thinking about last season our defence was poor to say the least and this season we have rhe same players only Parkes looks fitter until last nights injury our Goalkeeper player of the year say no more.

I agree pretty much with all of Otep's comments, think Pesch should consider you as a motivational speaker for the next match!

Taken time to assess our 2 home games.
Think the team which started at home to shrewsbury was possibly the most attack minded we have ever fielded in a game.
We looked very good going forward but a little suspect at the back especially the full back areas.
Unfortunaetly things started to go wrong with the injury to Taylor on saturday.
Enter Magrath into the afray.Maghoma pushed out right and hey ho back to how we played last season giving ground in midfield and gradually dropping deeper encouraging the opposition to score which of course they did.
Last night we looked likely to concede everytime they attacked us.
We sadly lack a decent pair of full backs.
Corbett will give you 100% every game but his distribution is awful.
Webster may score the odd goal but he contributes to the opposition scoring on a regular basis.
Both on saturday and last night he was pulled out of position timeand time again.
He's sadly starting to lack pace as well which we all know in this league is vital.
Maybe we should have played Blanchard at left back .
Webster left midfield and kept jacque in the middle with Bolder.
Thought the front 2 were excellent again.
Shame about Parkes. The guy just dosn't have any luck playing for us.
Will be sorely missed.

Great to see such debate on JA606

More contributions and opinions welcome, as we seem to be the most active of the League 2 teams on JA606.

what we all need now, is something to go right for us, a few more refereeing decisions to go our way, or some slice of random luck, to enable us to get that first win to convert all that attacking promise into winning results and points.

The other motivational factor is for the players to be singularly focussed to win at Southend and dedicate it to Tom. Promise needs to be turned into winning points, and maybe this wrteched peice of bad luck will gve the team the mental strength to make the required breakthrough. Hope so!

C'mon you Brewers
