I know I did a live thread yesterday but it's always worth reflecting on a game, especially one in which we won so convincingly.
The funny thing about yesterday was that we didn't even play that well - I wouldn't put this performance in our top five for the season. In fact it's probably well down the list, but then you have to remember that we have now scored at least 4 goals in 10 of our 33 games this season, which is a fantastic effort by the players.
Inverness basically gave us this victory but we were fantastically organised, compact and gave them nothing in the game. In fact outwith a couple of long range efforts by 'Man of the Match' Graeme Shinnie their only real chance was from a set piece at 1-0.
The first two goals were from comedy defending from Inverness, particularly the second one. I remember them doing something similar at Tannadice last season in the 4-4 draw. The penalty really shouldn't have been given as I thought Gunning was offside but it's about time we got a bit of luck. Some of the one touch football in the build up to the award was fantastic and it was a great penalty by Gunning for his 4th goal in 3 games. GMS did very well with the 4th and the 5th was probably the best bit of football in the game with a really good patient build up, lovely drop of the shoulder by Ciftci and a good cross by Watson which was headed home brilliantly by Armstrong.
The controversy of course was in the sending offs and the non-sending off. Their first sending off was definitely a sending off for me. You can't go in like that. At first I thought the second red was a red but on reflection there wasn't much difference between that one and the Paton challenge in the first half that went unpunished. Both won the ball but both went in straight on with a little bit of studs showing. The only difference was that in the Paton challenge McKay also went in with a straight leg so that might have influenced the referee's decision. In truth both tackles probably warranted a yellow.
As for the draw, it's the one that I wanted to be honest. In truth it gives us the best chance of progression as whoever goes through is for me the weakest team in the tournament. Obviously if it's Rangers then they have home advantage which is an issue to overcome but hopefully we'll bring a good support, somewhere in the region of 15k I'd hope. The only thing that will bring it down is that most parents won't bring their kids because I doubt it'll be a family friendly environment!
Oh, and they might as well start engraving Aberdeen's name on the League Cup this morning. If Aberdeen can't pump that shower then they should just give up on trying to win cups.

Damn phone! I meant to say are ciftci and GMS one yellow card away from missing the final should we make it?

I think the commentator said that Ciftci, Rankin and Robertson were a yellow away. I don't know about GMS though.
I'm also not sure if the SFA adopted the rule that yellows are wiped out once you reach the semis like they have in international tournaments now. I would expect they haven't since they are a bunch of useless kants.

I know during the game that they mentioned Robertson and Rankin being a yellow away, but ciftci and GMS were both booked yesterday and nothing was said about that really, kind of a stupid booking for Ciftci too, Jackie needs to make the players more aware of what bookings can mean in this competition I think

I'm not even sure what he was booked for. He just went over to celebrate with the fans.
It's ra conspiracy?

Gollum thought he was at a rave with his whistle when Ciftci went towards the crowd. He couldn't stop blowing the fecking thing.
It was a stupid booking though and players know they're not allowed to go into the crowd. When he got booked I was half expecting him to get sent off in the second half for a silly wee tackle and a second booking. Thankfully Jackie took him off before Collum had the chance.
