Good morning you fine people.
As the title hints, I'm looking into a tour of Australia. I'm looking to work my way around the country, hopefully for a year, 2 if I'm lucky.
I know this is a really popular thing to do so I'm guessing a few of you must have done it.
Any body have any tips or warnings? Anything I should avoid or really shouldn't miss?
All posts welcome, unless of course they're not.

Its all depends on how much money you have now, how long you will want to work for etc and obv i dont know any of that.
Take as much as you can as it is obviously best to enjoy yourself out there and not work (if possible). Think of it this way....if you work here, what are you missing out on???
If you work out there, those days at work could be spent careless on a beach in the sunshine with some great mates you will no doubt make out there.
My finances meant that i had 5-6 months of travelling up the east coast and i literally did everything i could and spent most of my savings and it was incredible.
I then used my 12 month working holiday visa, lived in melbourne for 5 months and worked for 4 months before travelling a bit of asia.
If i could do it all again, with the finances i had id 100% do it that way again. Melbourne was incredible

That is a good point I hadn't thought of it like that. Give me a ball bark figure though. I'm looking for a target to save towards.

To be honest i think i took around £1700 ish. It was 5 years ago though so im not entirely sure but somewhere around there (flights not included in that)
Again, it all depends on where you want to go, what you want to see, how many places, where your going to stay, how much you spend on booze, how many activities your going to do etc etc.
See if there's an STA travel near you? the people in there are really good to speak to about places etc (just dont book anytyhing until your in Oz)
Also i you havent booked flights yet, use a website called Skyscanner (best by far) and then what we did is used a company called Dial-A-Flight, who promise to beat any flight prices you can find. Benefit of that is that if your out there and want to change your return flights for any reason, you have a specific company to call and an assigned person to email/speak rather than just a website

The return flight is likely to be around £900-£1300 depending on who you use.
As for spending money and accommodation i'd take between £1500 and £2000 and just have a £500 buffer if you get unexpected costs.
Food in Oz is pretty expensive but other things are cheaper in the smaller towns. Good luck!

My advice would be to hire a camper van when you do the East Coast. What you pay out in hire costs you will save in accommodation costs and coach fares. The other option is to buy a camper van and then sell it on when you have done. If you intend to do all of Australia, that might be the better option. I was only there for 6 weeks, so couldn't be bothered with the hassle, but it can save you some money.

Elvis, I was looking at that as an option

Western Australia is absolutely stunning! Everyone travels the busier east coast and never make it over to the west.
