Oscar

at the beginning of season he was praised for his form and footy he played however since his main competitor was sold Oscar is going downhill and Jose keep play him because others on the bench aren't better and Mata who could possibly replace him in such long season isn't in our club anymore

Jose is to blame for not rotating squad enough

I couldn't agree more with you however what strikes me here is how may jose suckers are out there.

And also - the argument that Maat looked off form so it was right to sell him is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Our player of the year two times in a row playing below par for a few months due to a new system being implemented. Suddenly he's not good enough?

I suppose now that Oscar has been off form for the last two months that he should also be sold?

We had absolutely no idea whether Mata could have adjusted to Jose's system or not. He wasn't really given the chance. Subbed off early most games and not played for weeks after one bad performance. Some fans act like Mata's sale was some kind of fully informed decision when all we had was a couple of months of poor form and the rest being pure conjecture on his physical capabilities.

Spot on.

I'm genuinely shocked by the number of your fans who look to justify the decision with those excuses. It's a massive disservice to Mata and he deserves more than that.

Team before an individual is Mourinho's mantra and the fact is that we are competing for the league for the first time in 3 years................for all Mata's individual attacking brilliance playing in a free role for the past 2 years, the fact is we are winning more games this season........

Don't know why that is for certain, but that is the truth of the matter

Although I don't think we sold Mata to finance a deal through for Matic, I do think we did the right thing in selling him then and there, and bringing in Matic and Salah for next season.
--------------------------------------------

You think selling your best player over the last 2 trophy-laden seasons is justified because he had a few months of poor form?

And I suppose this has nothing to do with Mourinho thinking it. You would have agreed with Benitez if he sold Mata, right?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you lot actually watch us it's more than obvious to see the way we are playing now (counter attacking, high pressing) does not fit in with the way Mata plays, I was starting to believe Mata was going to be sold 6 months after he was given some time to see if he can adapt, but it didn't happen with those tiny legs of his.

His form over the last two seasons does not mean much, when the way we are looking to set up and play, completely contradicts the philosophy that would be required to give Mata the licence to roam forward in a free role, absolutely no chance. He was pretty much doomed from the start, and Mourinho decided to put faith in building the team around younger and more promising players imo (Oscar, Hazard), which is ironic as most think his decision to sell Mata was short sighted, it was anything but that.

So now tell me what is the point of having a player sitting on the bench losing value daily, when we can get close to £40mill for him, and stock up in positions that can help us this season and the following ones?

Of course it was the wrong decision to sell Mata. You will find the ones defending the decision are the same ones who said Mourinho would never be stupid enough to get rid of him in the first place. Sheep

wrong decision based on what though?

what would have happened if we had kept him?

The truth is no one can be certain at this stage..........time will tell
