20 years at the MacGalphsmiths Stadium

Saw this on DATM and thought it was a good thread.

After this season we have played 20 years at our " New " stadium.

Beating Palace 7-1

Losing to Barnsley in the play offs

Swan vestas...

Only joking, Bournemouth at home in the play offs and any game we've beaten Leeds in.

Worst matches?
So many to mention that I probably couldn't list them all.
I remember a 0-0 draw at home to Grimsby that was shockingly bad.
The Sheffield Wednesday game the other week was dreadful.

Worst manager ?
Morbid Mick Wadsworth.

What are your greatest memories ?

Beating Lincoln in the play off semi. Best atmosphere I've been in at the new ground.

Worst memories?

Without a doubt that game against Birmingham that sent us down.

Favourite matches?

The 3-3 against Bradford when we were 3-0 down after a Chris Waddle first half masterclass. Should have won it at the end through Andy Payton too. Fat nob.

Worst matches?

2-4 v Leeds. Barnsley in the play-offs. Watching Cheltenham away in the Kilner Bank on a giant screen when Abbott made that stupid back pass.

Worst manager ?

Ternant or Wadsworth. Take your pick.

Favourite season?

1994/95. The debut season of the Stadium. There's about 6 games that season that could be in the favourite matches bit. The 3-3 against Oxford was a cracker.

One rather sad statistic on the 'new stadium' is that in 20 years we haven't, to my knowledge, ever filled it for a league game. I think the only time it's sold out for a football match was against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

I hate to concede it but the ground is too big. If our capacity was 20,000 it would feel much more compact and have a much better atmosphere.

I guess the 'plan' was based on us potentially being in the top flight but this was flawed. It can be relatively easy to add to a capacity if needed, not so easy to reduce one.
