PSG's 4-3-3

Considering Arsenal supposedly play a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 ( I think most people are too lazy to really work it out in many ways), it was interesting to see the formation PSG utilised.

In a sense, there's is the purist form of a 4-3-3. It involves 4 players who are definitely defenders, 3 who are clear midfielders, and 3 obvious forwards. Most 4-3-3's usually either have perhaps more defensive minded midfielders, and usually midfielders to play with at one or two of the forwards in the top 3.

Cavani- Zlatan- Lavezzi

Not bad is it?

Unfortunately, I could only see minimal bits of the game whilst I was at the gym, but how did the front 3 look to you guys? I'm interested to see whether or not it is worth Arsenal throwing more forwards into the wider areas and themselves looking at being 4-3-3 in this purer sense.

For what its worth, I see us as 4-2-3-1, and its a formation thats beginning to grind on me. Everyone else seems to play it, so it doesn't really seem to help us when teams want to cancel us out. And I think if we want to play our best midfielders, a double pivot really does not suit. I wish we had one defensive specialist, anchorman, to look after the defensive part of the pitch.

Based on last night, they'd be much better served dropping Cavani for Lucas and playing a more balanced 4-3-3. I actually thought they looked better after Ibra got injured and Lucas came on. Before that they were poor, and quite fortunate to be 2-1 up.

Yeah, I said elsewhere that Ibra's injury might well be a blessing in disguise if it means Moura starting wide and Cavani shifting to centre, especially considering the Brazilian's pace and the fact they'll probably be looking to hit Chelsea on the break.

That PSG front three is so good as well, arguably the best in Europe.

Wouldn't trade them for our front 3 tbh.

Yeah true, although I'd defo take Zlatan over Karim though.

I loved the fluidity and unpredictability of our play at the beginning of the season, when Ramsey was on fire and our players were very flexible. Hard to mark, playing well as a team, pressing and enthusiastic.
I think we tend to forget that, or dismiss it as 'only played rubbish teams' etc.

Individually, yeah of course, but imagine the clash of egos you'd have with Cristiano and Zlatan in the same dressing room.

The mad thing is, Cavani is usually on the right hand side of the 4-3-3 and Ibra (being the 'main man' plays through the middle.

Cavani, considering his talent has been fair-to-middlin' for the Parisiens this season, namely because he's (realistically) a centre-forward, he can play either side in a forward trio, but it's not his 'natural' role.

Hence why there are a number of rumours of the Uruguayan not being 100% happy with his role in the PSG set-up.

Been saying we should sign Lavezzi for ages. Class player.

Him and Walcott either side of a new WC Striker. I don't even dare think about it.

When you look at the teams that play more of a traditional 4-3-3 or slight variations on it like PSG, Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern and Liverpool, I think its clear to see there is some correlation with winning and the use of the 4-3-3.
