CASE FOR THE DEFENSE

I look forward to the usual suspects attempting to defend the indefensible
That report has to be the straw that breaks the camels back.

So you are ruling any new owners out then?

I know lets stick with Blue Bill.

"An investor who wants to establish a presence in the Premier League, but, is prepared to make the long-term investment in a club's infrastructure, like at Arsenal, so that the club can be largely self-supporting at the top of the game."

----------------------------------------

A club like Everton can be self-supporting, but they won't reside "at the top of the game". Unless they raise ticket prices by a huge percentage (in line with the earnings of other clubs at the top of the game), or build a stadium that far exceeds the capacity of Old Trafford (and more to the point, fill it).

Everton are currently in the position that they need significant investment in order to compete on a level financial footing. Yet that door is being closed because of the FFP regulations that are coming into play. Everton's match day revenue in their last published reports was approx £20m. Arsenal's average attendance is less than double that of Evertons, yet their match day revenue for the same period was over £98m - over 5 times that of Everton's. Just to match that, either Everton have to have an owner who can put in £80m per season (which the FFP won't allow), or increase ticket prices at Everton by close to 500%, or build a stadium that dwarfs Old Trafford's capacity. All three options are not feasible. Throw into the equation sponsorship (which is less than the top clubs earn), television revenue (which is less than the top clubs earn), and the gulf only becomes wider.

That Everton have (so far) managed to compete at the higher end of the premier league, despite the huge financial obstacles that they currently face, is testament to the club overall. But the longer it goes on, the harder it will become.

THE EVERTON FC SHAREHOLDERS ASSOCIATION RECENTLY APPOINTED SEVERAL NEWCOMERS TO THEIR COMMITTEE.

In my opinion the Shareholders Association deserve acclaim for the forward thinking they have shown.

It is decisions such as this that gives me, as a season ticket holder & life long supporter, hope for the future.

If the board could show initiative like this we would have a chance.
