The Midfield- Long Term.

Shinji Kagawa: thought he was our best player tonight.

I hope over the coming weeks he is given plenty of playing time alongside Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj. I feel these three have the potential to be devastating in the attacking '3' in the 4-2-3-1 that Moyes seems to favour long term.

He was one of the only players with the courage to do something positive with the ball when pressured, and I love how he has the ability to wriggle out of sticky situations.

We all know it, our midfield is pretty dire, but if Moyes goes out and buys 2 quality central midfielders in the summer, we will at some point be able to go toe to toe with these heavy weight giants like we used to. Doing it over these two legs would have admittedly been suicide, but long term, I think we should be looking at ways to play positive dominant football in which the opposition has to think about us. Bayern knew what we were going to do and stepped up a gear accordingly when they needed to.

A strong and energetic ball winning midfielder a la Carvalho, Lars Bender or Schniederlin twinned with a deep lying playmaker who is mobile like Herrera, Gundogan or Pjanic would be a perfect combination going forward. They would give the defence better protection and passing options, Carrick is far too deep and immobile, and they would go a long way in making our team more dominant. Far too often we pull our trousers down, bend over and take a right good shafting in midfield.

Rafael suits that tactic but needs a good understudy. Might be too soon for Janko to make the step up just yet.

Buttner also too would be good in these tactics but should remain as back up. We should be doing everything in our power to secure Luke Shaw. Failing that, Alberto Moreno should be our next target.

Heisenberg you have just backed up my point.

"they are intelligent and a joy to watch against the likes of villa, and newcastle. different story against the big boys, they barely get a kick. "

They have a midfield behind them that is quite simply not upto it. That was the point of my article. Change the central midfield and we will see that three flourish.

how can you play kagawa and mata in the same team?

best position for both is behind the striker, we also have a certain rooney and potentially januzaj there

can't stick them on the left, no balance in the team

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats like saying "How can Nasri and Silva play in the same team?" Because the CM behind them is quality.

This.

Their midfield is the best in the league. If they had Carrick and 1 of either Clevs, Fellaini or Fletcher in their midfield then they would be nowhere near the title.

Toure and Fernandinho are quality. They knit the defence to the midfield and the midfield to the attack. We are missing this greatly.

Imagine our midfield infront of Demichelis He'd look even worse!!!

Heisenberg. They are arguably better but they are certainly the same sort of player.

No way is Nasri better than Kagawa. Silva untouchable on present form

I'd say its close Football_Bloodyhell

The difference however lies within the fact that Pellegrini has a tactical set up to get the best out of them. It does help when they have superior players in central midfield also.

They are our two most technically gifted players. They have to play.
