Graham Spiers - Herald this morning

http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/opinion/spiers-on-sport-ally-mccoist-is-repeatedly-coming-up-short-at-rangers.1396955766

I know we are all supposed to hate this guy but I couldn't help agreeing with most of what he said today about McCoist's managerial abilities

Why nobody on here ranting about it?

I've wanted McCoist out for almost a year and a half now.

In my opinion he's as bad as the rest of them just trying to fill their pockets. Not solely in terms of money, but that'll he's only bothered about getting us back to the SPL for personal success and not actually about the mess the club is in when we get there.

As much as I don't want him hounded out, and would be quite happy for him to be offered a suitable role elsewhere in the club, I don't think we should feel too sorry for him either. He's a millionaire, and earned £800k per annum off us for a while, recently reduced to £400k
(The teachers responsible for his kids' education are getting around £38k)

McCoist shouldn't have to think about the state that the club is in though. It's up to the board to decide what budget he gets or what cuts he has to make to the playing staff.

He's at Rangers because he loves the club. That really shouldn't be open to question. He's not there for some ego trip.

As for his managerial ability, well that's another story. He has had more to deal with than any other manager in Rangers history, BUT that doesn't excuse the inept performances or terrible tactics over the season.

The squad has SPL players who have not performed. Certainly their heads will have gone down due to getting kicked every week, plus having to play at a lower level than they were used to. That aside, these players are the only ones who chose to play for lower league Rangers. McCoist didn't want to have to make wholesale changes to the squad every season so he took the best quality players ho were willing to make the drop. These guys have lost interest. BUT at the end of the day it's McCoist's job to boot their erses into gear.

McCoist hasn't employed good enough tactics and has failed to motivate his players.

On those vital parts he has FAILED and maybe it is time for some fresh blood.

Thank you so much though Ally for being there in the club's time of need. He is still a legend

Considering where we are, that this is absolute nonsense in my opinion.

And you contradict yourself to be honest, as if he did really love the club, then he would naturally care about the state of the club.

You can call it whatever you want, but it wasn't McCoist in charge of finances. If he is told he has whatever to spend, then he is allowed to spend it. Simple as that.

He obviously cares about the state of the club, otherwise he would have ran when the club went through admin, but he didn't.

Is it really that simple? You'd have to be an idiot to think that the money we have spent, has been well spent or makes sense considering where we are. Apologies for expecting more from a man who supposedly loves the club. To not ask questions is simply daft. Even more so with the joke of a board we have playing musical chairs.

Because he must've had a host of big clubs willing to offer him 800k a year eh

I think you'll find that people like Charles Green and Ahmad are far more at fault for the state the club are in than McCoist. McCoist's salary was agreed BEFORE we went into admin so it was up to the board to tell him his wage wasn't affordable after that. Green and Ahmad came in and filled their pockets to a far more ridiculous extent than what McCoist ever did. Seems like you're blaming all of the club's woes on him, which is extremely harsh. Have I said for one moment that I thought that the money has been well spent? No I have not. I have expected more from McCoist, it's just that some people let their frustrations stop them from seeing the bigger picture. But you just vent away, don't let me stop you.

the board advise the football management what the budget for wages are.
Ally works within that budget...and as I understand it WELL within is what he has been advised.

The board sanction every signing the financial controller (Mr Stockbridge as was) sign it off and insure its within the plan.

Ally decides whether we play 4-4-2 or 4-5-1.while working well within the parameters of the allocated finances.

and Speirs is a nob.
