RIP Sue Townsend, friend of the Birch

This is a sad loss to the City of Leicester. I remember 5 years ago listening to the Freedom of Leicester ceremony live on Radio Leicester, when the Lord-Mayor-to-be the Honourable Alan Birchenall, Sue Townsend and Englebert Humperdinck were inducted. A fairly drab ceremony, memorable for the guy who did all the officiating (I think he was one of the leaders of the city council) constantly referring to the Hump as "Mr Humpledinck".

Yes i think all Foxes fans will be massively saddened by this huge loss and many of us are still in deep shock. If not they can't be real fans. My thoughts are with her family and city fans at this difficult and very emotion time. I think the club should do something, maybe the Birch could say a few words or maybe a few minutes silence before the Doncaster game would be a good stance.

I loved reading Adrian Mole when I was a mere ankle bitter myself, pity the TV series ruined it, giving us Leicester folk brummie accents

Aha, yes. I remember being annoyed by that too. Mind you, in TV land everyone from anywhere in the Midlands speaks with a Brummie accent it seems.

I was an adult by the time Adrian Mole hit the bookshops, but I do remember enjoying it hugely, I think because it was very accurate (and funny) about so many things I remembered from that 13 - 14 age – being incredibly gauche and infatuation with girls who were never going to give me a second glance, for example.
