That was an absolutely disgraceful performance. Pathetic, clueless, garbage. I have calmed down a bit since the final whistle but I have not felt that disgusted at the final whistle for a long, long time.
Here are the player ratings out of 10. Feel free to agree / disagree if you were there.
Lainton - 0 (Lyness - 9)
Edwards - 5
Sharps - 1
Cansdell- Sheriff - 9
Gray - 1
Palmer - 1
Weir - 3
MacFadzean - 5 (Hemmings - 7)
Kee - 0
McGurk - 0
Phillips - 1 (Alexander - 3)
Northampton were absolutely atrocious, really bad. Yet we lost to them.
More points dropped by Lainton, more points dropped because of a poor loanee 'keeper following in the footsteps of Pickford. This guy flaps at high balls, he stay on his line at all costs, doesn't command his area and he is Mr Calamity. Errrr....why does he play?
Today it was long high ball stuff all afternoon to 2 comparatively diminutive strikers. It has been like that all season really. These players must have brains the size of peas to realise that it doesn't work. Why can't they see it? The whole crowd can see it. Why don't the coaching team intervene?
That was so bad it was an occasion when the club should compensate those who travelled. Easily done, we all have ticket stubs.

Terrible result That puts paid to your auto ambitions for sure.

I don't understand why Lyness keeps being usurped by some poxy loanee that no-one has ever heard of. He always does a decent job whenever I see him, yet loses his place to every Tom-Dicck-n-Harry that gets bought in for a few months.

What load of rubbish , no fight at all . Has someone told our players pre- match , we don't want auto promotion at all cost. I have not felt so sick since the
7-1 thrashing at Port vale.
Northampton where absolute garbage , but the Brewers where even worse.
I just don't know what to say about what happened today, without being banned from this forum.

I am starting to wonder about the ambitions of our chairman.Does he just want a good pay day from the play offs or is it as i suspect he knows we couldnt possibly sustain league one football. For me yesterdays result answers that question and from your report Otep the performance highlights the total lack of commitment from the players.Making the chesterfield match all ticket tells me they had no intension of gunning for the auto spot telling supporters the stub from the game ensures you get a ticket for the home leg.Lets be honest chaps it wouldnt be a full house for the Chesterfield game and the easiest way to have done it was to give you a voucher on entry to the game.Lyness should come back in and replace that clown from Bury i dont feel at ease with him and spot on guys he is a flapper.Well play offs it is then and lets just hope we give a good account of ourselves with plenty of guts and fire in our bellies.

The Chesterfield game now has no appeal to the fans as it means nothing other than Chesterfield getting automatic promotion.
A few dull draws may be enough for us to make the playoffs now. The last thing we need now are injuries and what would be the point in any hard fought battles with the remaining games. Very boring I know, but after what happened yesterday what would be the point in going for it until the playoffs.
I could take the fact we have blown it with our chances with the Autos if we had lost with some fight, but there was not a sign of any other than Sheriff and Lyness.
How do you go from playing one of the best first 45 mins of football last week to playing the worst football I have seen from the Brewers 7 days later. It just don't make any logic other than the Club not wanting us to go up by way of autos. Money talks !

In the order that they happened, this is what the game did to me mentally, the thoughts that I had;
1/ 'I should stop going so often'.
2/ 'I must recoup my wasted money today by not going to the Hartlepool and Newport games'.
3/ 'I must write to the club and ask why we have played high balls to our short strikers when they have been up against 6ft 3 defenders for 42 games this season'.
4/ 'I must write to the club and ask if they will lay on free travel to Newport / Southend for those with Northampton ticket stubs'.
5/ 'Which of these players would I be disappointed to see us part company with?' (The answer was not very many).
What on earth has happened to Matty Palmer? I was seriously wrong about him. I insisted at the start of the season that he played every game. The only player who seemed comfortable with a ball at his feet, the ability to pick out a pass. Be careful what you wish for. Maybe playing with a load of hoof ball merchants has dragged him down.
Adam McGurk. Dreadful. He looked useful at the start of the season. He has skill, that is beyond question. He doesn't deliver anything though. He is starting to remind me of Maghoma for most of his time at the club. Talented but no end product. That said, if you got a good season out of McGurk you'd get 20+ goals and many more created.
Billy. Does he do enough to start for us? Yes, he is our top scorer but maybe he would be better as an impact substitute.

Yes i understand all the comments ,i didnt go to the game but listening to it on the radio , that was bad enough . As for Laintons error ,i watched the goal on the football league show and looked on in disbelief, i didnt realise it was that bad an error. But we cant score can we !!, lets face it , if were lucky we get one goal and then try and cling on to leads. Gary has a lot of work to do even to get us finishing in the top seven , Hartlipool are still one win from safety ,Newport away will be a defeat ,then Chesterfield will come and enjoy their promotion with a win , which will then leave Southend away who are probably going to need a win to displace us in the top seven .I would play Lyness now in the remaining games , bring in Symes and Knowles up front and try and get Diamond back . We are in for a poor end of season again i suspect after what promised so much .At least we are not trying to avoid the drop , as a club we have done well again this season , Ben has balanced the books ,and we will go again next season hopefully with a few new faces .

I listened to the radio and they said Northampton where an old team and they would get tired but it sounds like men playing boys and I also think the play-offs are not certain if they keep playing like that
