Time to prove we are champions

Leicester have played like champions for most of the season and deserve to be promoted as such. Let's hope they are back in top form tomorrow and next Saturday. Anything other than top spot will seem like a bit of a let-down. How about 100-plus points as a target? Anyone think 100 is a reasonable aim? Come on City!

We may have enough points for the title already given Burnley's run-in - Blackpool (A), Wigan (H), Ipswich (H) and Reading (A).

100 points may be a bit optimistic given we have 3 away games - Reading, Bolton and Huddersfield, and two home games against QPR, who seem to be coming into some form, and Doncaster, who might be desperate for points in the last game.

We'd need 4 wins or 3 wins and 2 draws out of the last 5 to make 100. We won't do this if the selection is as poor or the players perform as badly as Tuesday. I'd be surprised if this was the case.

However the best second tier tally of 92 points in 2002/3 is in reach and we could even overtake the all time best of 96 points from the solitary League 1 season of 2008/9 which would be an excellent achievement.

I'm more looking for a good reaction to Tuesday's debacle and finishing the season on a high note to take forward to next.

JG - note minor criticism of Nige in 3rd para - although not too much given where we are.

I think 100 points was a reasonable aim before the Brighton match. However, I'm currently struggling to see 3 wins and 2 draws out of the next 5 matches. The next two in particular will be tough and we'll be doing well not to lose one of them.

Even so, I hope the players go out tomorrow feeling disgusted about the way they played against Brighton and wanting to make amends.

I'm not usually pedantic but are you champions yet ?

I thought that was the point of the article - we're not Champions yet, so all the more reason to play like Champions now and earn the title.

I don't think Nigel will stand for another performance like the Brighton game. By all accounts, he was not happy with the players and told them so in no uncertain terms.

The Brighton game was always a game we were likely to lose - the pressure of maintaining a promotion push was off and we were playing a side desperate to get towards the play offs - let alone the fact that at least half the team looked as though they were still pi$$ed up!!

I get the feeling that Nigel will treat the Brighton game as a one off and another performance of that level will not be tolerated. We shall see later this evening...
