Is Vidic Really Past It?

Hello guys, a long time reader first time poster here (Believe me I am not lying ).

So we all agree that its not been an ideal season for us and the appointment of Moyes so far looks like it has backfired. Ok this is not a Moyes Out article so lets move on to the title.

So our captain Vidic has signed for Inter next season. But do you feel that we were wrong to let him go? His reasoning being "He wanted a new challenge". I mean what could be a bigger challenge than getting us back to the top again after a disastrous season? I genuinely felt something was wrong.

So what do you guys think - Is Vidic really past it? Ok he was never the same defender after his horrific injury vs Basel but last season he looked good for us. Although this season none of our center backs bar Smalling to an extent have performed to their potential. That might be due to the system, the training methods or tactics etc.

When I see performances from him like Bayern at home (MOTM) it leads me to believe that he can still offer us very much. I dont believe for one second that he is "Past It". Yes he will no longer be the player he was for us from 07-11 but he on form he is still the top 3 CBs in the league and the performance vs Bayern speaks for it.

He is 32 years old the same age as John Terry. The same was said of Terry when AVB was their coach that Terry was past it and he should retire etc. But look what happened under benitez and Mourinho. Terry has been by far the best CB in the league this season. Granted that Terry never had that injury Vidic had but what is to say that Vidic wouldnt thrive under new management/ system?

He is our facking captain FFS and our only genuine leader out there on the pitch apart from maybe Jones who is still young. The likes of Rooney's and the Evra's and the Rio's and the Carrick's are far from being leaders.Vidic led us to the league title last year and was very good. So what happened all of a sudden in 6 months?

I believe that Man United have made a massive mistake in letting him go. How the likes of Evra, Rio, Young and Fletcher are still collecting their paychecks and Vidic is leaving us when we are at our lowest? I am sure he will have a stormer at Inter, similar to what Pirlo had at Juventus as I believe that under proper management Vidic is still a world class center back.

Yes we have the likes of Evans, Jones and Smalling on our books but can you honestly see anyone of them reaching the levels of Vidic from 07-12? Barring Smalling I dont see it. Evans is just a poor man's Pique and Jones no matter how much potential he has his playing style is too rough and tough to stay injury free.

I believe that when we sell Vidic (and Rio hopefuly) we buy a proper settled world class center back as his replacement. I would love to see Mehdi Benatia, Elaquim Mangala or Diego Godin as his replacement. Kurt Zouma was a great shout but Chelsea snapped him up

P.S - Koke is a beast of a player. Would rather have him than Kroos at United
