Frank Kopel RIP

I've just seen the news that Frank Kopel has sadly passed away.

I've mentioned on here before the campaign around Frank due to the care, or lack of more appropriately, he has had due to the early onset of dementia that he has suffered led by his wife. Indeed both his wife and Frankie himself were on the Tannadice pitch a few weeks ago promoting this cause and at the time he looked so frail.

Sadly he passed away yesterday I believe after a six year battle with vascular dementia.

Hugely sad news and thoughts are with his wife Amanda and his family.

United have confirmed that fundraising will continue for the campaign to stop the injustice of those suffering from early onset dementia not receiving any help with care until they are 65.

RIP Frank Kopel

It's just really sad news and a horrible illness for someone to suffer. 65 is no age at all these days. Really feel for the family who must have had to slowly see him slipping away from them for the last few years. I'm sure I read an interview with his wife recently when she said he does have good days every now and then but most days he barely remembers anyone. So sad.

I'm old enough to remember Frank Kopel and a fine player he was. He worked really hard at his game and was a fine sportsman and a very decent human being.

I'm truly saddened by this news.

RIP, Frank.

I remember the screamer he scored against Anderlecht to send United through to the next round of the UEFS Cup.

I have a friend who's dad is suffering from this, the changes in him over the last year are very sad.
It certainly puts things in perspective when something like this happens. A larger than life character that i know well passed away last week, he was 61.
