Yeovil Town v Huddersfield Town

Venue: Huish Park, Yeovil, Somerset.

Date: Easter Monday 21 April 2014.................Kick Off: 3.00 pm.

Brief History.

Yeovil were formed in 1895 and are Somerset's only Football League club. They were a non league club for their first 108 years, until they entered the football league in 2003 after being promoted from the Football Conference League as champions.

In the space of only 11 years they have fought there way into the second tier of the football league and this season have been competing with the likes of Forest, Leicester, Burnley and many other old established football clubs, which is a remarkable achievement in anybodies language.

Stadium & Nickname.

They moved into their current stadium (Huish Park) during 1990, after moving from their previous ground, which was famous for it's 2.4 metre "sideline to sideline" slope.

They are known as "The Glovers" due to the fact that Yeovil had many Leather factories in days gone by, although only one remains open today and the area was renowned for making gloves. These days the Westland Helicopter factory is the Town's main employer.

Manager.

Their 58 year old London born Manager, Gary Johnson, is one of football's real nice guys, who never appears to get over excited and is always very fair in his after match comments. He originally took over at Yeovil in 2001 although he left them in 2005 for Bristol City, only to return back again in 2012, which culminated in promotion to the Championship during May 2013, when they beat Brentford 2-1 in the Wembley League One play off final.

Head to Head.

Town have only met Yeovil away on 8 previous occasions and have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 3, whilst scoring 9 goals and conceding 8, so we have a decent record there, although Yeovil will be extra keen to get revenge for their earlier 5-1 mauling in Huddersfield.

They are currently propping up the league and are desperate for points and must be every bodies favourites for relegation, having only accumulated 37 points with 3 matches remaining.

Although they have only 8 wins to their credit and are no longer a threat to Town's survival hopes, they nevertheless have beaten such as Forest 3-1 at home, Watford 3-0 away and have also recorded very creditable draws against high flyers Wigan, Leicester & Reading, all on their own patches.

Predictions.

So, since it 's futile to try and predict the outcome, particularly when the stakes are so high for both clubs, I will stick my neck out and go for a 2-0 win for Town, to cement our survival in the Championship with a couple of games remaining.

I'm pretty sure that Dean will see this season as a success.
Despite cutting the wage bill by £2million the club have managed to not only stay up but I'm pretty certain our final League position will be higher than last season.

Last year we were getting thumped 4/5/6-1 all over the place, this season that has rarely happened apart from a fluke result at Leeds and a 0-3 thumping at home to Forest.
We've competed with most in this division, taken points off Burnley(promoted) QPR,Wigan, Brighton and Reading who are all in the play off mix.

We've signed a striker who has 7goals in 19 games despite the fact most of them have been a struggle for him up front on his own...that lad will score 20 for us next season.

Things aren't half as bad as Town fans make it out to be

Come on LV ...Wak'n up.

I thought he'd (Robins) be an 'about' 1mill per season !
(Not 5 mill ....LV should work for 'The SUN' )
Smithies would be on around 600k wouldn't he ?
I'd have thought Robins would have been on more than the 1st choice keeper ?
Just wondering ?

Mirf, "Too bad seasons" Too ?
Is that as in they were just ....too bad..to watch,
or "Too poor seasons".....as in the weather in Autumn, Winter & Spring wasn't good enough ?

Very confusing.
I thought we had 'two' ....(consecutive) poor seasons.

A slight miss-understanding perhaps .

And Wakey oh Wakey !!! (No not you LV ! although it is time to get up )
He did struggle up front on his own didn't he ?
Yet the lone striker tactic continues & is endorsed by yourself ? maybe if this one tactic alone had been addressed...maybe we wouldn't have had to wait untill next season for him to score 20 goals,
I'm sure it would have been better if he had been closer to that this season too......(get it Mirf This season as well .

You're right though
Things aren't as bad as some Town fans make it out to be...

They are WORSE

Oh by the way Blokes !

This LV guy. D'ya know what he says last night ?

'No Darn, What did LV say last night'..?
Oh, How do 'Voice of reason', glad someone's on board,
Well he said he hasn't been and watched TOWN since it was 8 quid !!!! & that he thought it was ..& I quote.... "A right bag-o-shiite" along with "8 quid was too much"

Then says Robins will be on 2k a week !!!!

He wears corduroy jackets with leatherette elbow reinforcements .....make of that what you will

Robins on £1million a year

Not a chance of it being anywhere near that, half the figure and you'll be a lot closer.

I was close then ? ....

Seriously though. So is he on about 'par' with the best players ?

Don't be Darn daft, get real - he's on around 50% of what Town's highest paid players earn.

Even top German Bundesliga League side Bayern Leverkusen, who are currently searching for a new manager to replace the sacked Sami Hyypia, have stated that they are unwilling to pay more than £1.2 million per year for the right man.

Alright alright Sorry Mirf

I 'asked' ! I don't 4 king know ?
So you think Wakey is 'way off' too then ....as he informed me maybe 'half' what I suggested.

Lets get stuck in then.
So 'half' what the better players are on .
Ok Mirf. I'll take your word for it, So what will that be then ? I don't know mate, I'm asking

12k a week for the top earners give or take £1k

posted on 24/4/14

Thanks Wakey
I did say last night to sleepy head (LV69) that i thought the better players would be on about 12 thou a week...
& OK I was wrong, But I did think the manager would be on about 18 maybe 19 thou a week (1 Mill)

I assume you two are nearer the mark than me then.
But I reckon Robins managing a Championship side is worth more than a mere 'pundit' on a football chat show... so is it also true then that Alan Hansen is on close to a Mill at the Beeb !
That's MAD .
