Big club, small mindset

Even as a Leeds fan, I have to concede that Man U is a massive club. But if Moyes is sacked, as expected, it will reflect the narrow-minded – and increasingly popular – view that a successful team can be created in a season. So the players aren't convinced by him and members of the board weren't convinced from the start, and most of the fans wanted him out. To all those I say, you deserve what you get from the next manager. And the next. And the next... If any club should be aware of the benefits of sticking with a manager for the long-term, it's Man U. We have a similar situation at Leeds where, at times, most of the supporters have wanted Brian McDermott out. Many still do, but what most of us non-managers can comprehend is the number of difficulties involved in getting the best out of a poor team. Just as I hope McDermott is given at least another season, I think David Moyes should keep his job, otherwise Man U are in the wilderness for at least another season.

Good article and I understand the sentiment but one season too early perhaps?

Moyes has been pretty much a disaster so the board have no option but to act now or in the summer..............the bloke is a dead man walking.
Should DM's replacement suffer the same fate next season then this article would be more relevant imo.

It's one of the biggest jobs in world football let alone club football and unfortunately it's just not worked, although it was always worth a punt.
Hopefully both parties will put this behind them and move onto better things

Moyes is a good manager but to succeed at a big club your mindset must mirror that of a big club and that's usually seen in how your team approaches games.

Otherwise you must have a strong personality to cope.

The only managers who are defensive minded and succeed at big clubs have strong personalities like Mourinho or Cappello.

You can't be defensive and have a reserved personality. Moyes did exactly what Hodgson did.

Brilliant post, 5 from me. Ferguson won nothing from his appointment in 1986 to 1989. He was not sacked despite Man U finishing 11th in 1989. Moyes has only been 8 months into the job.

What utter dribble Grand Cannon, Fergie didn't take over a successful team like Moyes did and the financial implications of failure were nowhere near as huge.

He had to go, not one sign things were improving, in fact players clearly we're not happy. At least make a decent argument.

This is probaby the best squad we had since 2008 or 2009. A few players ageing won't change away that fact. SAF if he had this squad I reckon the title would all but be wrapped up this season.

Put it this way last few seasons we had enough points to finish above liverpool probably by february. We are usually around 30-40 points clear of liverpool by end of march so to be 23 behind them in april is embarrassing.

Put it this way its like chelsea in 2004-05 mourinho winning the title with the record 95 points tally, next season a successor comes in and finishes 7th with lets say 69 points and losing to the top 6 teams regularly. Man utd have been freescoring in the premier league last 2 seasons, in fact this seasons goal tally is less then what man utd manage usually at just old trafford alone under SAF.

Moyes has had his time spent the most we have done ever in transfer windows yet we are stuck in 7th spot. I think usually by march end in the last decade we have champions league qualification all done and dusted or virtually on the brink of it. Moyes has made us out of it with 4 games to go. I mean seriously we usually have enough points with 10 games left last 2 seasons to qualify for champions league. If we hadnl't collapsed last 2 seasons in the league at the end we would have broken the points record.

You tell me this how can you go from winning 25 of the first 30 league games last season to be only able to win 21 games maxiumum this season after 38 games currently wins after 34 games so we won half our games in the premier league.

Best out of a poor team you say, the same poor team who were reigning premier league champions and won 25 of our first 30 league games last season. If SAF could manage that without mata and januzaj, zaha and fellaini imagine what SAF would have done this season we probably would be 6 points clear now at the top.
