Not Forest, please.

The traitor Derbyshire (someone tell him to look at the back of his shirt) has two goals against Leeds and cannot stop scoring to help their last minute place into the play offs. Even if we could beat Florist 5-0 every game, we could do without the extra pressure for the play offs.

I have never wished Leeds to win in my life, but today I do.

Forest also play Brighton, Backo, who are in pole position and probably favourites for 6th.
A lot may depend on whether Burnley can be ar$ed to turn up against Reading or Ipswich.

Reading v M'boro tomorrow night, so we'll know more soon

I bet deep down some Forest fans would sooner miss out on play offs than play us.

oh the hubris. You're still a long way from being promoted lad.

I can tell you that finishing in 3rd place can be a bit of a problem for some teams (and has been in the past) . There is the let down of not getting autos coupled with the prospect of facing the emotional swings of the playoffs, which is a big task for any squad. 3rd place hasn't done too well at getting through the playoffs if memory serves. Whereas whomever finishes 6th, has momentum on their side and really nothing to lose. Most 6th placed squads do quite well, which makes sense because they've stopped worrying about the pressure and just get on with playing football.

Can you back that up with some facts TTiT

I think this is a common misconception. I can't be bothered to look it up but I'm fairly sure someone has done this before and it showed that the team in 3rd is the most likely to get promoted. There are obviously examples where the team in 6th has won it (Palace is one I can think of) and I think these tend to stick in the memory. But in general the team in 3rd is the best team in the play offs and should beat the others sides. QPR are much more dangerous now that Austin and Barton are back in the side. Wigan look quite poor at the moment but they're a cup side so could be one to watch. Derby are in good form and look comfortable and injury free so would be slight favourites for me. The team in 6th, which could be Brighton (poor side), Ipswich (very average), Reading (incredibly inconsistent), Blackburn (dangeorus but dodgy defence) or Forest (see all of the above!) are all unlikely to win the play-offs in my opinion.

I would say there would be pessimistic fans at both ends of A52 who would be nervous of a play off semi final between Forest and Derby. I would relish I personally. It would be a great advert for East Mids footy. That said, the odds on Forest making 6th spot are stacked against them with games v two rivals who will both perform a lot better than dire Leeds and Birmingham sides did against Forest this weekend. It would be a miracle to be honest.
