Who else out there thinks Ibrahim Afellay could be the answer to arsenal's problems? Here's why i think so- barcelona obviously want Cesc (who doesn't? ) and he seems to want to go too. Thing is barcelona don't want to say up. Well, how about this- we give them Cesc, get Afellay + 20 million and use this money to get a proper striker to pair up with Van Persie while we switch to 4-4-2. We've got lots of central midfielders- lack, aaron, song, abou, coquelin. Afellay and Walcott/Nasri/new signing can play wide right. Don't forget Botelho, Traore, and Gibbs are all naturally left sided midfielders. And our new striker can pair with V.Persie up front. Notice that i've left out all players whose futures are up in the air. What do you guys think?

I don't think he's done particularly well there. He's been used as a sub behind keita and even bojan. He's a squad player there and isn't likely to ever be a first team starter, while at arsenal he's got a shot at the wide right position.

Afellay is better than Nasri in my opinion, better passer, more creative and is more direct than Nasri. 20m plus Cesc for him, get rid of Nasri and invest into a quality central midfielder.

First off, afellay is not a mediocre player- otherwise barcelona wouldn't have gotten him. He's had a few good games for them, plus that assist against real madrid, and he did well enough as a first team regular at PSV. Secondly, it would be nice if we could keep all our top players, but they don't seem to want to stay and i don't think it's at all wise keeping an unhappy player.

Thanks, Vermaelen. I think we're well stocked in central midfield though, since in the system i'm proposing, we'll play only 2 at a time. Would rather we invested in a true honest-to-god 6 foot-plus technically skilled number 9!

If Cesc and Denilson both move on I feel we need to invest in a central midfielder. Not a lightweight one with pure technique but a yaya toure/Vieira mould midfielder. No coincidence we haven't won anything since Vieira left, we haven't got a player like him in the squad.

Well, guess you do have a point there. But what do you think about the striker thing? Any suggestions? Wish Benzema could come- he fits the description. Who else do you guys have in mind?
