These reports about the deal for Louis Van Gaal hitting a stumbling block are interesting.
There is a FIFA video on youtube where LVG is interviewed.
He explicitly states that, whichever club he goes to, he likes to keep on a member of the former coaching team who can tell him about the club, act as the link between the players and give him updates on the youth system and the good players coming through. He uses Bayern as an example.
Surprised if that ethos has changed. Giggs as part of his backroom staff would therefore seem perfect. However Ryan shouldn’t let his ego get in the way if hes only offered the post of reserve team manager. This is how Guardiola learnt his trade as Barca B team coach.
There is of course a risk of LVG insisting on only his own staff but is that a bigger or smaller risk than a manager with no managerial experience at all??
I’m not sure United can afford to bring “romance" into their decision making right now. Just get the very best man available.
