I don't get why all of a sudden the 'Sir Alex Ferguson Way' is a dirty mantra!
Don't get me wrong, if we secure a top manager like LVG and many changes take place then I'll be happy to go with the flow and hopefully enjoy the ride.
However people have been writing that "We need to depart from the Fergie Way, we need to stop with this tradition nonsense."
For some reason many seem to have forgotten the success Sir Alex brought over 25 years and now his name and anything associated with it is dirt!
Well I just don't get it and I won't have it, he is the best manager the English game has seen and I will not forget it, hope others don't too.
The reason people want to see continuity is because that's what stood us in good stead for over 25 years, Fergie's Way was to establish a club identity, and ethos, and carry the thread of that through the years, while changing his teams and his methods, formations and tactics.
He was praised for many years for the number of different teams he built and how he adapted over the years, but now people queue to slag him off and any association with him.
So I believe many are missing the point, the idea is to keep the thread running through the club, not a Fergie thread but a United one, and then build on it. This can be done with a new manager such a LVG, but it will require some old faces to hang around. I just don't get why some appear to want to rip the whole thing apart!!!

Fergie changed things so many times I don't really think there is a 'united way'
it was him, not some consistent method
..............................................................................................
Fergie bought into the United spirit from the off, style v substance as said earlier. The tradition/status of the number 7 shirt for example, something that was established long before he arrived; he appreciated it's value to the club and fans and kept it going!

I've never really looked into when it was the 7 became so iconic
The 7 shirt was just the shirt warn by the right winger back in the day
Bestie for example wore 11 plenty of times (possibly even more than the 7 (someone else might confirm))
I'm an old fart and can't really remember tbh. Coppell wore it but again, it was only because he played in the position to wear it

Macca
My Dad got me a Video of great united number 7s about 15 years ago. Best was in it.
So I was a bit confused when I watched a program about Best where he said himself his number was 11.
Since then I realised he played both, but his words were "my number was 11"

Just depended where you played if it was the same back then as it was when I was a kid
I think Best might even have worn the number 8 although I would have to check that

Bestie played in a fair few numbers but I can't find the exact number of appearances for each number
11 is seemingly the more dominant one though

Bestie and Giggsy as 11s. Doesn't get much better. If 7 is iconic, 11 surely has to be now. I don't agree on retiring any numbers, however.

Hoping we smack the 11 right on Adnan's back when Giggs hangs up his boots.
Show him two framed photos on a desk on Best and Giggs and say
"Here you go son, this is yours now. Earn it"

Adnan should stick with 44 and wait for Rooney's10 imho

That could be another 5 years though Macca. The lad will want to wear a smaller number sooner than that and 11 would suit him.

Not necessarily.
A fair few of our experienced players don;t have 1-11 shirt numbers

Not 1-11 - that would be impossible as there are more than 11 players in the squad . But when a youth player is given a squad number they move down as quickly as possible. 44 is exactly what it is - a first squad number given to a promoted youth team player.
