Watford V Huddersfield Town

Date: Saturday 3rd May 2014..................... Kick off 12.15 pm

Venue: Vicarage Road, Watford, Hertfordshire.

Club History,

Watford were formed in 1881 and joined the football league in 1922, when they also moved into their current ground. They spent most of the next 50 years in the lower leagues, until Elton John bought the club in 1976 and appointed Graham Taylor as their manager the year after.

During Taylor's 10 year stint he took them from the old Fourth Division into the then top tier Division One, culminating as runners up in 1982/83 and a FA Cup final place in 1984. However, once Taylor had departed their fortunes took a tumble between 1987/97, before he returned again for a second spell, which saw them promoted in successive seasons to end up yet again in the top division.

Nickname:

They were initially called The Brewers and then The Blues and then in 1959 by their current nickname of The Hornets, which was chosen by their fans due I presume to their Gold & Black club colours.

Owners:

They are currently owned by the Italian Pozzo family, who also own Udinese (Italy) and Granada (Spain) and 7 of the 9 management & training staff are now all Italian, led by head coach Guiseppe Sannina.

Past Managers:

Include old Town stalwart Bill McGarry, plus George Kirby, Mike Keen, Dave Bassett, Steve Perryman, Glenn Roeder, Kenny Jackett, Aidy Boothroyd and Sean Dyche.

Head to Head:

Town have only visited Watford 10 times in league action and have collected 12 points from their P10 - W3 - D3 - L4 - F8 - A13 record, which includes the 4-0 walloping we suffered during last season's visit. However, our last four encounters going back to 1995/96, resulted in a L W D W sequence for Town and 7 points from the 12 contested, which aint bad for a visiting side.

Predictions

To be honest the season finished for me following the Yeovil game, when we secured our Championship status and to be honest, I've little enthusiasm left and couldn't really give two hoots as to what the score might be, in this nothing to play for end of season encounter.

Having said that, I hope Robins somehow changes his mind set and sends them out to attack and entertain for a change and If he does, I reckon we could run out winners by 5 goals to 4, with Wardy netting an Hattrick and Troy Deeney scoring all four for the Hornets.

Oh Danny Ward, Danny Danny Danny Ward

That's a dilmena now for the doubting Town management..has he earned a new contract, at the last minute ?

In a way though it has just highlighted what we have missed over most of the 3 years he's been at Town..too much mediocrity and even some dire stuff...interspersed all too infrequently with moments of good play...

Will he be released or kept, that is the question.

..or will his inconsistency cost him his career at Town...?

Glad i don't have to decide, because you can guarantee if we let him go he'll do an Arfield and suddenly realise he needs to raise his game and be a star somewhere else.

My verdict, offer him a years deal...on reduced terms...and see how he is by Xmas...then decide whether to flog him in January or give him an improved 2 year deal..

Can't say fairer than that

Jacko,

"My verdict, offer him a years deal... on reduced terms..."

It's just like your boss telling you he's going to give you a pay cut and then adding that he expects you to work your Bollox off over the next 6 month's

Some incentive that sounds like Jacko, especially when we are talking about a player who would have been our top scorer, had he scored another 3 goals.
