Ok firstly if possible can this just be Utd fans that respond as we all know the obvious comments from rivals (i.e we are skint, debt, no CL etc etc)
Fact is we do have money to spend and it HAS to be spent otherwise Utd will fall down even more.
In my view we need to spend over 200 million this summer, and that is an enourmous amount of money to spend.
Realistically this is make or break for Utd, with the current squad we probably need to lose 7 or 8 players who just aren't good enough.
We need at least 3 or 4 defenders including a left back, we need at least 2 CM's probably 3 in my view as none of ours are good enough anymore, and 2 wingers as i'd like to seen Nani & Young sold asap.
If you total up on todays market value for top end players you are probably looking at 30m for each position. (very rough estimate) but any selling club will know we are desperate and have money to spend.
How much do you think needs to be spent ?

Was it the Olmpiakos away game where that guy made an 8 minute videos analysis of Youngs performance and in something like 15 crosses he didnt look up once
Even worse it displayed how utterly poor his football brain is by showing the passes he should have made and what he did instead. It was tragic

Also when you consider someone as talented as Kroos is on something like 45k a week it's just astonishing how Ashely Young managed to steal 130k a week from the club.
Sell him asap and sign Rues as replacement

I'd imagine we will spend about £120m-£150m ... and recoup around £30m in players going the other way.
1 CM - Big name
1 CM - Mid price, experienced, happy to rotate
1 LB - Big name
1 CB - Mid price, experienced, happy to rotate
1 RB - Mid price, experienced, happy to rotate
Don't think we will buy any attaching players, wide or central. We bought Mata and Januzaj has come onto the scene.

I wish people would stop saying things like "United NEED to spend £150 million." or "United must spend £200 million."
It's about identifying the right player for the club and the formation/system you want to play, we've already spent 70 million on Fellaini, who is gash and Mata who was another addition to an area that the team is already well stocked in.
It's always about spending loads of money, it's just as much about coaching, Liverpool and Everton have showed this already.

Van Gaal apparently prides himself on improving players
Just saying player a is garbage or player b is garbage and they need to go is a simplistic viewpoint
We have players who may well flourish under the new manager that haven;t flourished before.
Certain players suit certain styles of play and not others and some players are able to adapt
People say, for example, sell Nani
Why? Yes he has been inconsistent and injury prone but we all know that at his best he is a very talented player. Van Gaal's training regimes may suit Nani and the injuriy niggle may become a thing of the past and Van Gaal might just be able to get him back to his best.
We don't need 4 new defenders whatsoever. Look at Stone at Everton. Who's to say Keane won't step up under the tutiledge of Van Gaal?
We need a LB although with Van Gaal being Dutch, Buttner may well flourish there. Another unknown as yet. We clearly need another though.
We won't need any more wingers just yet if we are going to play 433 unless we sell the ones we have
Central midfield is where needs sorting badly, followed by LB and then maybe CB
Once we have a dominant CM, other players should flourish more than they have hopefully
Ive always said we have a strong squad but we are missing just 3, maybe 4, top class peak players to add to the actual first XI

From your starting 11, I would say De Gea, Rafael, Mata, Januzaj, RVP and Rooney are good enough. So by that reckoning you need a LB, CB x2 and CM x2.

Agree with that Maca.
I think we have a squad full of squad players rather than first teamers and squad players we have had in the past (1999 & 2008 being prime examples).
Three or four signings to go straight into the first XI would make a massive difference in my opinion.
I don't event hink they have to be big name players either. We have enough talent up front and if we could get players to play a quicker game then our front players should get more chance to shine.

The problem is that for a second summer running, we've got a new manager. If LVG is 'someone who will make players perform better' then the risk is that he won't want to sell any of them, until he's had time to assess them himself. The squad is already too big. We need to sell to recoup some of the wage bill, the transfer fees and presumably just to make everything more manageable, before we buy.
Some players will want to leave (I'm guessing Anderson, Nani and Hernandez fit into that category). Selling these guys should raise at least £20m.
But what about Macheda, Fellaini, Young, I'd like to think we could bring in about £30m for the three of them at least. But will they go?
