am i right that he was given a new contract only last year, if so this is unusual for arsenal who have a history of leaving player contracts until the end.

Yep, and it is the same with Ramsey. Things are changing right now at Arsenal since we got the new sponsorship deal.
Some people still refusing to accept that we had to sell our player to help paying the stadium. It is not the case anymore.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wenger's recent comments about us not needing to spend and working from within the club don't fill me with hope.
The money is there but Wenger doesn't sound like a man that wants to spend it.

Are you referring to the comment he said that sometime, you don't have to look for an external answer? Because if you are, then I think Wenger was talking about our injuries.
If not, then link please?

Go on surprise me, tell me you agree with everything he said and that we don't need signings only hard work.

.... again, I think the hard work he refers to is more related to the injuries we had this season and understand why it happened (that's why he said hard work in the summer). He did talk about it in his SSN interview and so did Gazidis.
Now, I'm sure we won't sign 7-8 players like most on here think we will but I can see 2-3 players coming.
Think the Serge Aurier deal will be the first one.

Massive news that we've tied down our two main CBs. Here's to an injury-free world cup and a good pre-season for both of them.

Don't know why you are rolling your eyes at me, what you read in that article is Wenger's words not mine.
You asked me for a source I provided it. If you choose to stay in denial in regards to what you read then be my guest, continue defending your Lord Wenger.
There are Arsenal fans who are not brainwashed or blinkered with the rubbish he spouts every season.

I'm not in denial or brainwashed. I have also read the article but didn't come to the same conclusion as you.
"We have to continue to develop as a team. We have bridged a big gap (from 2012/13) and we want to be better next season.
"How can we do that? We have hard work in the summer to achieve that."
Those are Wenger's word (copied and pasted from the article), so please explain to me what is the hard work in the summer he is referring to?

You are contradicting me for the sake of it and on the defensive because I provided you with quotes exposing your Lord Wenger. Get over it. Oh and...

Wenger is always very cagey about potential transfers.
But to me this almost seems like saying "we will be in the market for players".
