Here is the Abyss Bears and Bhoys

I know this has probably been done to death, last
night, but I have been stewing on this all night and in
the cold light of day it seems even more apocalyptic.
Rangers in a winning position surrender meekly to the
champions of Slovenia, who manage to do what we
couldn't against Malmo a month ago. Lose a goal and
come back to win the match.
Celtic, from what I have heard and read struggle against
a third rate Swiss side to create a meaningful chance and
subsequently travel with no advantage to play a side who
will be hugely boosted.
Now seriously would you put money on one or both getting
the required result, not with the available evidence Rangers
lost at home to Malmo, Unirea and drew with Kaunas in the
last few seasons. Celtic have been beaten at Utrecht, Tel Aviv
and Aalborg in the same period. I sincerely hope that both
somehow get through because failure would see us both and
as a Country freefall.
In 2008-09 Rangers kicked out of Europe in Lithuania, Celtic finish
bottom of CL group.
2009-10 Celtic at least manage to win a qualifying tie but don't make
CL and finish third in Europa League group while Rangers take Celtic's
place at the bottom of CL group.
2010-11 Celtic kicked out of Europe, some respite as Rangers do relatively
ok to be 3rd in CL, and progress one round in Europa League.
2011-12 Who knows? But we hope for the best.
Our Edinburgh cousins don't escape either, when we both visit Tynecastle
we will each face a difficult game right know either set of supporters would
take a narrow win and a draw from two visits.
Last night Tottenham rolled into Tynie and finished the game and tie within
half an hour. Now come on they are a very good side with many fine players but a League Two or Conference side would have given them a better match. Had Hearts lost 1-2 or even 1-3 after playing quite well, that
could have been seen as ok, but 0-5 to a team playing on third gear for the
last hour. That I'm afraid is abysmal and much much worse than anyone
expected. Tottenham will beat them with the Under 12's next week.
Scottish football is peering into the European abyss. One of our teams
thankfully will get four bonus points for CL qualification next season, the
Runner Up has no chance of qualifying. Then in the co-efficent Rangers
drop 22 points and Celtic 12. I am afraid that unless one or both get a
huge slice of luck or produce something miraculous the only way is down.
Next Thursday Rangers 3 Maribor 0, Sion 0 Celtic 2.
Let us pray or else.

So after Celtic and Rangers struggled we pin our hopes on Hearts

Murney Hearts were expected to go out possibly losing
four or five in London, as they occasionally do at Ibrox
and Celtic Park but to get humped by five on their own
pitch where they will fight tooth and nail against Rangers and Celtic.
They played quite well at Ibrox should have been beaten but could not be grudges their point.
Last night by all accounts they took fright. If Spurs
needed or wanted to they could have hit eight.

Why is anybody surprised about the results last night?

People were on here yesterday predicting 3-0, 4-0 for Celtic. Based on what? Not any recent European performances, presumably.

It seems to me to be the same every season - Ludicrous expectations of superiority, back down to earth with a bump, hysteria about the state of the Scottish game.

your right mate spl is shocking standard and showing no signs of improving

i hope celtic and rangers go through im fairly confident we can match sion over there and score if we get hooper kayal back plus big kelvin wilson back in cb

rangers should score against maribor but keeping clean sheet looks a problem for you just now

Barcelona, you would expect players with the experience that most in the Rangers team had
to be able to preserve a very good advantage for
45 minutes. I agree that some posters were very
ambitious with the Celtic predictions but Rangers
were going to do the same with Malmo.
On occasions recently we have stepped up to the
plate Celtic in Moscow and Rangers in Lisbon but
these are a rarity. In March most of this team were
unfortunate not to win in Eindhoven last night they
got pasted in Slovenia.
