Jay Rodriguez

I know its a rubbish paper but I really like Rodriguez and hope we do make a move for him. #COYS

Tottenham will launch a bid for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez in the coming weeks.

Although the England international is recovering from surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the White Hart Lane club are convinced he will be back in action before the end of the year.

Southampton have already fielded bids of £25million from Manchester United for Luke Shaw and £20m from Liverpool for Adam Lallana and are now braced for Tottenham's opening gambit for Rodriguez.

The 24-year-old was in excellent form for Southampton prior to his injury scoring 17 goals and was pushing for inclusion in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad.

Tottenham, who could yet appoint Southampton coach Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, want more homegrown players to blend with the large influx of foreign players they invested heavily in last summer.

Some of those will go with Romanian centre-back Vlad Chiriches, Erik Lamela, Etienne Capoue, Roberto Soldado and the more established Jan Vertonghen all attracting interest - predominantly from Italian clubs.

Rodriguez can play from the left of the attack or behind a main striker and his pace and intelligence gave Southampton a cutting edge that had hem pushing for European contention at one stage of the season.

They face a difficult summer and will be fighting off more bids with Calum Chambers, Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Dejan Lovren all subject to interest from Premier League rivals.

I find it strange that clubs are supposedly trying to buy players when they don't have managers.

Managers don't buy the players.

Well Tottenham managers certainly don't.

Hopefully it's not another pre-season of buying loads of players followed by seeing if we can make a team of them, or if we just bought a bunch of midfielders again

Surely they will want some input though. I would not like to take over a club where the team is made for me. It doesn't make sense.

My company are trying to do it right now. They want me to ask two ex colleagues to join our hacking team as managers. We don't have a Director yet as he has left. The 2 ex colleagues will not come until they know who the Director is.

Clubs need to let managers buy the players.

No thank you to Rodriquez

No chance Levy will sanction the purchase of a player returning from a major knee injury unless he is ridiculously cheap, and rightly so imo.

Decent PL player, but would he improve us? There must be better out there for less money imo. Would be slightly underwhelmed if this happened at the prices being touted.

To be fair, Demba Ba was supposedly blighted by a knee injury - hasn't caused any problems yet.

As long as the op is a success and the player is diligent about his rehab and recovery (including rest periods) it's not a problem.

I like him but I think we could do better, although I wouldn't say no if we got another striker in. Think he'd put more effort in than Adebayor.

If we want effort buy Kevin Phillips. I want a player that suits our play and understands the managers tactics.
