Derek McInnes Analysis

Apparently the second best looking manager in the league is on the radar of West Brom and might well move to the club he played for.

Let's look at why West Brom would want Derek.

McInnes this year led Aberdeen to their best season in 17 years. He was rewarded with the Manager of the Year award in Scotland.

Aberdeen finished third. One place above Dundee United, one place below Motherwell. Remember, this is their best season in 17 years.

Aberdeen have a massive wage budget of over £5.5million. This dwarves the wage budget of Motherwell and is second only to Celtic in the league. He has managed to spend big money on people like Barry Robson and Willo Flood to lead them to the heady heights of 3rd.

McInnes has been praised for blending youth into his squad. In the league this year, u21 players at Aberdeen played a total of 931 minutes. Dundee United u21 players played 7547 minutes in total. If we break those u21 minutes down further, we see that Cammy Smith played 847 of the 931 minutes played by u21 players at Aberdeen. Interestingly, McInnes didn't give a single youth player a debut this season. (source: The Guardian)

McInnes did however win the League Cup, the Dons first trophy in a generation. This and the league position seems to have reawakened the slumbering Dons support and crowds have been up as the season has progressed.

So what do we think about McInnes? Is he deserving of Manager of the Year in Scotland? Should he be a leading candidate for the West Brom post? Is he all that good?

For me the big problem we've had is the same problem we've had for years - the centre of our defence. Going forward we've been ok and that's where most of our inexperience is (Gauld, Armstrong, GMS, Ciftci, Dow are all u23 players).

good centre halfs are hard to come by in Scotland, that said I like the lads Hutchison at well.

rnr Aberdeen have some vile fans, just like hearts.

Not that I care much for Motherwell supporters either but the celebration was brilliant. The way the ball eventually found it's way into the net too.

Got it right up the smug 'dandy dons' aswell.

Also, did you see that offside call for Pawlett? He was about 5 yards onside and that's no even joking
