I have been giving some thought to the rumours regarding the 70 sackings. It is obvious that things have to change where staff outgoings are concerned, but would the situation seem fairer and less shocking if they just restructured the roles within the club, and let people 're-apply. One person should be able to do multiple roles, eg, the tea lady can photocopy and clean the offices and boardroom.
If the applicants are confident enough, and capable enough, they deserve the position and subsequent wage. If not, they rightfully need to be moved on. This way, in my opinion, would reduce the staff per roll situation and put the right people into running the club's day to day needs.
Like I say, it's just my opinion, but could have been done quietly and would have been fairer than just wielding an axe. Who knows, some of the axed could be more capable than those who stay.
