Andros Townsend and Jake Livermore

These two young players played a part yesterday and I would like to give them some discussion.

I was very impressed with Townsend when he came on, as I was when he played v Charlton last season.

I was also impressed with Livermore.

Of course we must consider the standard of the opposition but I am pleased that two youth team products look to be finally making a name for themselves at Spurs. I am not sure where Andros is from but Jake is an Enfield boy so the fact that he is a local lad makes it all the more pleasing.

What does everyone think about these two prospects? and how much game time, if any, will they get in a Spurs shirt this season?

RRP,

I totally get this new geneartion stuff. For the record, i'm only mid 30's myself so i dont think i'm quite in the fuddy duddy bracket just yet. I dont go overboard about the FA Cup nowadays because i know how prioritised it is now & what it means to the latest crop of players. In saying that, i can still remember the buzz i got from winning it, and whilst i was on cloud 9 when we qualified for the CL & throughout the games versus Milan, AC & Real, it wasn't quite the same.

As i said before, its a completely seperate debate which could go on & on, there's lots of different scenarios that we could compare, but finishing 1st in any one given competition should always be rated higher than finishing 4th, 3rd or even 2nd.

I blame Arsene Wenger - for no reason whatsoever.

Chicken - Sorry fella i had you down for a bit older than mid 30's

Well its refreshing to hear a young-en still get a buzz from the FA Cup, i wish i could lie and say i get some sort of thrill, but i really dont, its getting to a point where the FA Cup games get in the way just like the International games

Blame Wenger

Your right though, who would have thought getting 4th place in something would be so sought after

Andros is Walthamstow born as is Harry Kane... great to see the local lads coming through.

however its also very refreshing to see a player try to use both skill and pace to beat a man, not just pace and power (bale), or raw raw pace (lennon)

...................................

Lennon and Bale both possess, and use, a huge amount of skill. Both can dribble, both have good control, and in Bale's case he has an excellent delivery (Lennon's is, as we all know, variable!). To suggest otherwise is wrong.

But I was very pleased with both Livermore and Townsend last night, let's hope we see more of them, and Rose, and maybe Harry Kane, who I haven't seen anyting of but have heard good things about from those who have.

i am talking about flair skill on the ball. for example, there is a difference between valencia and nani, both are top wingers, but nani is more flair on the ball. that is what i was getting at.. i was talking about dribbling only not delivery, passing or any other aspects.

however i do disagree that lennon has a great amount of skill.. he is a very dangerous player.. but he has one trick.. drop shoulder and go the other way, and relies on pace every time to beat a man.

Chronic - fair enough re Lennon, but I do think Bale's dribbling ability if often forgotten about, he sometimes looks a bit awkward when he does it due to his skinny lanky legs so maybe it doesn't look as attractive as when Nani et al do it, but it is there!

Whilst Lennon has a reputation for poor crossing, i actually think his crossing has improved tenfold. In fact, he was the most accurate crosser last season with a 30% success rate. Downing was the nearest to him at 22%.

He used to spoon it into no mans land but more times than not, his crossing finds a man, like his cross to Defoe when he hit the bar from an offside position, on Thursday.

Crossing isn't Lennon's main game either, he's more a "beat his man & lay it back" kind of winger, rather than a "get to the by-line & whip it over" like Bentley or Beckham.

Also, i know he prefers beating his man down the flank, but i would like him to have just a bit more confidence cutting in on his left, where i think he's just as dangerous, plus there is a high possibility of a defender clippping him down in the box (for us to miss a penalty).

Keep up the good work Azza.
