Why are you comparing us with a team that hasn't won the League in 50 years and the FA Cup in 20 years .. ?

I presume you are talking about CFC history .....

Also they stole Greaves from us .... I never got over it

I too was a heartbroken kid! Were you there when it was Jimmy's last game? Greaves 4 Nottingham Forest 3 I think it was?

Did you help carry him off the pitch at the end?

Greaves playing in the 67 Cup Final to beat us just added salt to the wound

More like you boys nicked him from us!

"Greaves grew up during the war years and soon became a Spurs supporter, preferring to trek from the East End to White Hart Lane rather than the nearer Upton Park at a time West Ham were nothing more than Second Division nonentities. Spurs were exciting to watch as they had invented the concept of push and run rather than hoofing the ball and hoping it would be a damn long time before the ball came back.

During the autumn of 1954, it looked likely that Greaves would join the Tottenham staff but, at a vital moment, manager Rowe health deteriorated with the worry of the likelihood of relegation as his side grew too old. Greaves was quickly taken under the wing of one Jimmy Thompson, a one-man Pied Piper, who led so many East End boys to Chelsea, particularly players like Peter Brabrook, Barry Bridges and others. Greaves was a smash hit in the Chelsea Youth side. In the 1956-57 season, he scored 114 goals for the Chelsea Youth team."

Either way clearly a legend for both clubs - I was at his 70th birthday do at the 02 - class gent, who tells it how it is and hilarious to boot - its strange how he never seems to be given a TV spot these days..

114 goals - just incredible!! I realised how lucky we were to get Jimmy - I knew he was a Spurs boy. One of the best stories about him...

In the juniors he managed to score 7 goals in one game. Ted Drake made a point of congratulating him. 'To score 7 goals is an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience - I know, I did it for Arsenal's 1st team. Never forget this day son, it'll never happen again.'

The next game he got 8!

The day Jimmy goes will be like the heart going out of me. Seeing him play was at the centre of my universe as a boy.
