Liverpool's defensive record in the 2013/14 season was poor, because of this many people are questioning the Liverpool defenders. However when Steve Clarke was at the club, Liverpool's defence was rock solid but their problem was scoring goals. It seems to be more of a matter of tactics than lack of defensive quality players. The style of football that Liverpool play with means we are susceptible to being hit on the counter attack (as shown against Crystal Palace).
I believe that Liverpool's problems won't be solved by signing a world class centre back (although it wouldn't hurt) but by balancing their style of play so that they aren't so vulnerable on the counter. Brendan Rodgers is fully capable of developing the team, he's shown us this year how he can improve players and implement his tactics. Perhaps he needs to work on his defensive coaching or perhaps hire someone else to help.
Jordan Henderson was also heavily missed in the last few games of the season which did not help Liverpool's defence. Steven Gerrard was an influential player for Liverpool this season as a defensive midfielder but his true colours were really shown when Jordan Henderson was suspended and he wasn't able to do all of Steven Gerrards running for him.
We shall see what players Brendan Rodgers brings in, personally i think the most important position Liverpool need to fill is defensive midfield and cover for Jordan Henderson.
Which position do you think Liverpool need filling, and what players do you think they should sign?
Do Liverpool need new defenders?

I think he decided early that Borini was rubbish, and is now determined to continually bang that drum regardless of any evidence presented.

Told me what....he is a one cap wonder who couldn't even managed to oust Rossi in the Italy squad. A player who played 4 games after nearly half a season out.
Borini played a full season and managed to get a summer holiday.

You found a player to pick on when he first joined Liverpool and had an injury hit season, not doing as well as expected. Then even after a good season, you couldn't possibly admit to being wrong, again, and thus you continued to state he was crap.

Rossi, Balotelli, Immobile and Destro?
You have Naismith and Kone and you are knocking Italy's options

He spent the season farmed out on loan, hardly set the world alight again. Just admit it, he has been a flop

What have evertons scottish wide forward/false nine (I call this the borini) and ivorian striker have to do with the Italy squad?

Face it Arouna, you know nothing of European football and these players could be called anything because you know nothing about them.
You are claiming Borini should be getting ahead of them based on nothing other than your desperate need to go on about Borini.
Your forward line is an utter shambles yet you choose to spend half your time criticising a player who would walk into your squad, in fact he would be your best striker.
If you think Naismith and Kone are better then you are mentally ill.
