WHAT PRICE PROMOTION ?

Every season the Championship becomes a gladiatorial circus on teams striving to get to Valhala, which is the premiere league.
yes, i know it's because the players want to be in the best spotlight possible to show off what god given talents they possess, and i suppose the money helps a little too.
but every time i come across the same old problem, which is . . . once in the prem it takes an awful lot of cash to stay there.
immediately you have to pay enormous amounts to buy decent players to justify your right to be there in the first place, greatly increasing the wage bill, thus greatly increasing the admission fee.
at the end of your first season you will be lucky to finish in the bottom half of the bottom half.
the next season you want to increase your chances of staying there by paying even more for slightly better players (usually some foreign player even their own country's F.A.have never heard of).
thus increasing the wage bill yet again, and yet again the admission fee rises.
when the third season kicks off you decide that the club is ready for european competition and pay even more Monopoly money to attain that dream.
this time you buy big name stars to grace your arena's.
as always the wage bill becomes extortionate and gross, but you're happy to pay because it furthers your dream of european domination and it's what the fans want.
when the fourth season comes along you realise you have to cut the wage bill as the european campaign came to nowt.
as the best players have gone the team begins a rapid downward spiral to the relegation zone and eventually drops off the radar altogether.
back down to the championship again.
this time however , the admission fee remains roughly what it was, so effectively the fans are now paying premier league prices for playing in the championship
so please someone, anyone tell me why we bother eh ?

Redun........ I totally agree.

I can tell you the top four of the premiership for next year, no idea on the Championship.

I can see most games at 3 oClock on a Saturday.

I can see mostly British players, playing in a relatively fair league.

After Saturday, I was gutted that our performance wasn't reflected in the result.

That said I look forward to next season with the belief that I will see Derby win more games than they lose, something that wouldn't have happened in the Prem.

The experience is better on match days when your winning and let's face it if you go up you go from a successful season to what is probably a dog fight. I still would like it though, and if doesn't happen in the next few years and regulation makes it more difficult; the more likely it is that this becomes the permanent level.

Today's Premier League is all about survival, not like it used to be when at least half the league had a chance of finishing in the top 4 - West Ham, Forest, Derby, Norwich and etc used to be top 5 regularly, now it's impossible. Man City managed to break into the elite, but only after spending obscene amounts of money on spoilt brats that kick a bag of wind for a living.

And another thing, GET OFF MY LAWN!

Redun. Had a very similar conversation with my dad and son on the way back home on Saturday. I guess it was mainly driven by us trying to convince ourselves we are better off in the championship after all!!

One other point to add, yes it's great to test yourself against the top sides and they would be matches to look forward to. However, I'd get no more excited about playing the likes of Palace, Hull, Stoke and dare I say WOR than I would Brighton, Wigan or Bournemouth.

Having said that we all expect our trams to go hell for leather to get there.

PS. Sorry FAF, I'll go home now.
