Our future...

What are peopleโ€™s expectations for the next couple of seasons?

Realistically, we aren't going to be challenging Chelsea or City for the title and they are continuing to strengthen (massively in Chelseaโ€™s case).

So can we get Top 4 next season? Liverpool have already made a couple of astute signings who will improve their squad strength and you would expect Arsenal to finally add a decent striker.

This is taking Everton and Spurs out of the equation.

Personally, I am not expecting a Top 4 finish next season, I think we as fans will need to be patient in the next couple of seasons. LVG himself said he needs two years to turn the club around, so I am expecting a 5th place finish for the coming season, and hopefully Top 4 the season after.

I donโ€™t have a problem with this, on the prevision we are looking to play and buy some younger players who have room to grow, and we begin to show some kind of identity to our football. Eventually, youโ€™d think this will us in a healthy position.

Rash does make some good points, we are going to have to make the most changes in comparison to rivals and we are the only ones with a new manager.

City added 4 new players last season, and a more forward thinking exciting manager

Look how that ended up.

macca city were way ahead of you last season, youre coming from seventh and have to fix the spine of your team, they added a few players to an already established team, you cant say united are doing the same when you need new midfield and centre backs.

I think you will defo be better but just dont think its going to be as seamless a transition as many of you seem to think.

Everton are a better example. They brought in a new manager with a new philosophy to a squad vastly inferior to ours and almost got fourth.

But what Everton, City, Liverpool or Shakter Karagandy did or didn't do isn't all that relevant to how we go about strengthening our team with a different set of players and a different manager.

Sorry but I disagree with that

We are not coming from a squad that is only good enough to finish 7th. We finished there because our players massively underperformed because of varying circumstances.

Our squad was clearly good enough to challenge top 4 as it was. The fact it didn't was not because of the squad's capability.

We are not as miles back as our league position would suggest, strength wise sorry

I would suggest we have already added better quality than Everton in Mata too.

Add to that further and United won't be finishing behind Everton next season imho

I think you'd find that most (discerning) United fans don't envisage an automatic return to the summit.

However, i agree with Macca (strange!) that we are practically in a false position: this team is demonstrably better than seventh!

Be honest, did you really see a team that finished first at a canter to come seventh? Did you expect that much of a decline?

TRC and I agree

Agreed, Macca.

We'll have to wait and see. 7th was an absolute shambles because this team should have been finishing higher than that.

So the idea that we are going from 7th to 4th, while on paper is correct, in terms of strength it's not.
