Wayne Rooney

Has answered back about scholes comments about him being past his best,

The England striker was responding to comments from Scholes, who questioned whether Rooney was past his prime and "worn out" after a long career.
Rooney, 28, said: "He's been a team-mate but he's been away from the first team for a long time.
"I'm not interested. He's got his opinions so let's leave it at that."

Rooney added: "I've seen a lot of you saying he's coached me and been around the team, but he hasn't. I'm not really going to react.

Did scholes over step the mark with his comments?

If Rooney became uniteds highest ever goal scorer would you consider him more successful as a player, more of a legend at united than Scholes?

From what we know, Rooney doesn't read newspapers but does go off on what the headline says, just like 90% of other people who skim the sports pages and rarely read what's going on.

Anyway, Rooney should take this as something to spur him on, but he probably won't. If anything he should probably ignore the press, who build him up and then tear him down. It's been going on since 2004.

Or even more likely, he doesn't read the newspapers or headlines, but just finds out from what journo's are asking/pressing.

I am surprised at all this hate Rooney has been getting at the end of the season.

He had a very good year essentially playing for a mid table team. He scored a fair few goals and got a lot of assists as well. Plus this year he looks fit, fast and strong much better shape than the last few seasons.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what scholes said. It's time someone actually came and out and spoke the truth because there has been enough poosy footing around. This has been one one of our poorest seasons and apart from the keeper every other player has been at fault.

Rooney is past his best and scholes said it like it is.

This

Scholes is entitled to his opinion and from being a team mate is best positioned to give his opinion.

Loz you should have included the bit where he said he is happy to play anywhere as well which is directly contrary to him saying he wants to play as a striker.

Scholes is probably fed up with the little shít just like many fans are

Scholes just said what we were all thinking
--------------------------
some of you perhaps, but not all

In the first half of last season he was playing some of his best football in a while and the players were saying he was fitter than he'd been in 5 years,. His form dipped after his injury mid season.

How many players in the PL can boast about scoring 119 goals in the last 5 seasons?

Not many would be my guess.

Scholes' comments were exaggerated by the press, as were Rooney's responses.

It's a total non story
