EPL TV Money

why does every cant in Scottish fitba greet about how teams at bottom of the epl earn 10 times what Celtic or Rangers earn up here in TV money

Its a different league and a completely different market FFS. I wish cants would just accept it cause its never going to change.

Does my fakin nut in, you don't here the Dutch complaining about the difference in money the eredevisie (sp) makes in comparison to neighbours in the German league. same with Belgium not complaining about their tv income compared to Ligue 1 in France.

Even if they'd given us more money, it still wouldn't have taken away the problem of Rangers having the BTC to deal with which ultimately drove them into admin and liquidation. It certainly wouldn't have stopped David Murray's business problems. And there is no way that Rangers would have stockpiled money to deal with that problem. Whatever they had earned from the tv deals would have been spent.

The BTC didn't, Craig Whyte did. Rangers could have kept trading until this was resolved. Craig Whyte stopped paying PAYE, NI contributions and also sold shares that were worth £250,000.

The BTG was a huge negative on the Admin and attempt of a CVA but before that Rangers were and could still trade

Also Ivan, i get what you're saying about irresponsible spending etc and yes this probably could have happened if we stayed with Sky.

That's not what i'm getting at though, every company can have debt, if you're bringing in more than what you're spending over a 5 year period then you can be succesfull and also give their customer what they want.

Too many chairmen seen a quick buck and it set Scottish football back for a decade, for me there is no denying that

Rangers were forced into admin because craig whyte stopped paying PAYE and NI

not the BTC

the leaks from HMRC and falsehoods that Rangers owed 140 million also caused considerable damage

Rangers were 18 million in debt which an agreement was in place to pay back at 1 million per season, had Lloyds pulled the gun before the BTC then the sale of our star players would have covered that, yes we would have suffered on the pitch, but we would have reocovered

The BTC still drove Murray to sell the club out of fear that he would lose, and this allowed Whyte to step in and do what he did.

I'm not sure anything would have stopped that, even a better tv deal from Sky (unless it was a ridiculous EPL type deal which obviously wouldn't have happened).

I take the point though that you perhaps could have had greater sellable assets though.

Of course it would have stopped it as we would have had buyers due to the potential income.

During the sky first period the winners of the league were getting between 8-10 million and the EPL was getting about 16 million at the time. It was going up year on year for both clubs. The SPL was one of the most watched leagues in Europe at the time and the other clubs like Dundee Utd flucked us all. Once that money went we all had to cut cost massively and it's been downhill ever since. Biggest mistake in the history of Scottish football. Even the likes of Dundee had Canigia and Novo. Everyone only ended up in shieyte as the money stopped over night due to stupidity of the non OF clubs.

Castle

That's exactly what i was getting at. The difference between the SPL and the EPL wasn't totally drastic. Compare now to £1 million winning the SPFL and £50 million for finishing BOTTOM of the EPL

Some people have short term memories though.
20 years ago, Rangers and Celtic (alongside dozens of other European club sides in small leagues) could compete on an even keel with anything that England or Spain had to offer.
Sky has totally f *cked up the entire outlook and logistics of the entire European football community altogether by throwing ridiculous sums of money at 2 leagues an CREATING these aritificial mismatches between nations in pursuit of creating their own "flagship product" (the EPL and La Liga).

They even had a hand in turning the European Cup into the Champions League, which in turn, has also been completely twisted to favour those nations once more.

German Clubs are fortunate that they have domestic TV networks making significant sums of money who can support the national league on an even keel with these two behemoths.
Noone else even comes close and its fooked the entire sport imo
