"In Italy we have had very little contact, but for sure there have not been any offers from Roma," Peppino Tirri, Martinez’s agent in Italy, told Calciomercato.
"There are, instead, opportunities abroad - Arsenal and Valencia in particular are very interested in Jackson Martinez."

Very likely to be exaggerated interest, but there must at least be a little truth in it. The signs are promising that we are looking at the right calibre.
Apologies if this has already been posted, but did not see it.

Surely Arsenal fans would prefer Jackson Martinez over Javi Martinez?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Both, they are such hard positions to get the talent in.

Definitely Javi, in my opinion. We desperately need that rock in midfield that neither Arteta nor Flamini can provide, though the efforts of both have been admirable.

...also a fantastic player

Put it this way, if we signed Javi Martinez, Wenger would have finally signed an adequate replacement for Gilberto Silva (Flamini did well, but he is a different kind of player).

We don't play 4-4-2 anymore, so why would we need his replacement. I get the sentiments though, we need a strong CDM.

Never been THAT impressed by Jackson Martinez. Just another fancy foreign name who may flop in the Premier League after a big money move.

I agree Sheriff, I rate him about as high as Benteke or Bony at the moment, if that...

I rate Bony and I thought he got stronger as the season went on. Scores all different types of goals, can hold it, has some pace and does that in a team which keeps the ball on the floor. Wouldn't surprise me if he got 20 goals in an Arsenal shirt so I reckon you could do worse.

Did anyone else see what giroud said?
"I can tell you Arsenal will add a striker to the team," Giroud said to French website InfoSport+.
Another encouraging sign from the club. We definitely have ambitions to bring in a good striker.
Giroud went on to say about how its important for big teams to have several quality strikers. And he's prepared to fight for his place, and so on.
