All 3 defenders have done done one thing Rooney has failed to do and that is score a goal in the World Cup. 2010 England had a very easy group as well and yet the £200,000 + weekly earner who had a very good season with United couldn't even score against poor teams like USA, Algeria and Slovenia.

Sol Campbell scored against Sweden in 2002.
Rio Ferdinand scored against Denmark in 2002.

8 games, no goals. Pretty poor. But then he wasn't fit and shouldn't have been selected in 2006. He wasn't fit in 2010 and was playing at the sharp end of a poor team in poor form. Not surprising he's not scored.
