Makes no sense

Why is Rooney getting all the blame. Yes he was poor but he had one moment of genius with the assist, what did Gerrard do all game, not one thing. I'm not being biased towards Rooney as bar the assist he was cack, but he was out of position and had a moment of magic. Gerrard was in his natural position and still rubbish.

Also why does everyone keep blaming Rooney. You think he is rubbish so why are you shocked when he plays rubbish.

Sterling is a winger who can play centrally though. There's the difference. And he's a great little player too.

Rooney isn't cut out for the left hand side. Everytime fergie played him there it drove me mad too. The guy has scored over 200 goals for our club by playing as a 9 or a 10.

Gerrard was fine. His problem is that he's and explosive and athletic player but not an intelligent one. More often than not his passes leave the recipient with too much to do. He hits it unnecessarily quick into feet when he doesnt need to. Like he's forcing it too much. He was far from being Englands worst performer tonight though. He was solid. Rooney was shìte.

He's not though. While he certainly came through as a winger, he has been at his most effective for us through the middle, forcing Coutinho out of the team. He looked more dangerous than Suarez and Sturridge at the tail end of last season. A threat he doesn't offer from out wide.

I agree with that. Gerrard's footballing brain is something that has been steadily improving in his new position, but is not quite at the level of Pirlo, Zidane etc.

He's always played on instinct, and it is sometimes to his detriment, especially since that athleticism is now starting to wane.

Gerrard was shiiiite. Total passenger. Forgot he was playing for about 20 mins.

Rooney was woeful. Put in one decent ball but otherwise was dogsh(i)te.

Gerrard was poor in the first half, but was dragged out to the left in order to cover the buggerings the Italians were handing out to Baines and Rooney.

In the second half he was much better, helped in part by Rooney being moved and Baines being given some actual assistance to help him defend.

Rooney was exactly as I expected, fu(king shlt.

He will be the whole tournament because he's the most overrated piece of shlt in English history

He's so overrated it makes me physically sick and absolutely disgusted.

If there was an actual unt of the year trophy then he'd get my vote for it.

Fergie had a point about Gerrard. He went too far but he was sort of right.

Gerrard might have scored some worldies in his day but he's never had control of a football game like Xavi, Scholes, Pirlo, Zidane ever did.

Not in the very top bracket of cm's for me and never has been. Still been a very good player though.

Not this again Old rednose bad judgement with players aka stam etc. And pleas for the love of god do not put scholes alongside with zidane ,xavi, etc. Scholes never controlled a football game gerrad is 10 times the player he is. Scholes a good player not WC.

This 'Sterling is a winger' ballacks sounds like it's coming from the same lot that said Rodgers didn't change his tactics all season, and doesn't have a plan B. Sterling played on the wing at some points last season. But then played at the top of a midfield diamond later on, and did well there.

I'm sick of the same excuses coming out about Rooney. 'He's not fit', or 'he's playing out of position'. Don't play him then. He's not done it in a major international finals for 10 years! How many more chances are we meant to give him? Play the players in form, not the players based on reputation.
